Beginning this episode, Kristie Marsden voices Sayu Yagami in the English dub of the series instead of Kelly Metzger, who voices the younger Sayu. In the original Japanese version, however, Sayu's voice actress (Haruka Kidou) remains consistent throughout the series.

Near: (to Light) I'm pleased to meet you at last, L number two.
(edit)
Ryuk: Looks like things are getting interesting again...
(edit)
Ryuk: (observing the Yagami family) A heartwarming scene from the most unfortunate family in the world...
(edit)
Near: I’m the leader of the SPK, that’s right, N.
Light: (thinking to himself) N? Are you fooling around with me? But this aura… What is this!? (edit) Mello: The note isn’t the only thing I want. I want to kill all those in my way. I’ll become number one! (continues in thought) I’ll use any means necessary to beat Near. (edit)
Light: (thinking to himself) N? Are you fooling around with me? But this aura… What is this!? (edit) Mello: The note isn’t the only thing I want. I want to kill all those in my way. I’ll become number one! (continues in thought) I’ll use any means necessary to beat Near. (edit)
Altered Scene: While Near meets with President David Hoope in both the manga and anime, the character design for the President in the anime is actually what was used for the Vice President in the manga.
(edit)
Omitted Scene: The manga has a scene of the Shinigami Realm preceding the scene at the Yagami household. The unnamed shinigami continue to gamble, reiterating how much their world and the human world has changed.
(edit)
Altered Scene: The manga version of the Wammy House flashback is slightly more explicit in demonstrating how inferior Mello thinks himself to be in comparison to Near. Mello thinks back to times when Near's projects would get more attention from their peers than his own. Thus, Mello would spend more of his time alone for the sake of trying to one up Near eventually.
(edit)
Moved Scene: Mello's flashback of the Wammy House is moved from after his order to kidnap Sayu Yagami in the manga, to the beginning of the episode, preceding the scene at the Yagami household.
(edit)
Omitted Scene: A Spy Among the SPK
In the anime, Near finds out about the existence of the Death Note based on the past police reports involving Higuchi's capture. Mello, on the other hand, seems to find out about the notebook based on no information whatsoever.
The manga actually gives an explanation as to how Mello discovered the Death Note's existence. After the scene with Near and the President, the scene switches to an SPK agent by the name of Ill Ratt, who requisitions a random passerby's phone to make "an official call." Under the code name of "Y320," he contacts Mello confirming that the Death Note is currently in possession by the Japanese Police. Suspecting that a spy is among the SPK, Near later alerts one of his agents that he should keep any new information concerning the case solely in his head.
While any information concerning Ratt as the SPK spy is removed from the anime, he still remains in the anime series, if only as another agent to Near. (edit)

The President
In the English dub of the episode, the president has a Texan accent--a play on the 43rd president of the United States, George W. Bush. (edit) John McEnroe
The FBI agent who meets Soichiro Yagami identifies himself under the alias "John McEnroe." McEnroe shares his alias name with former professional tennis player John Patrick McEnroe Jr. (edit)
