Never doubt the Canadians! Great show. hide show

Degrassi: The Next Generation is a really good show that I highly recomend watching. I'm only 13, and it came out when I was only about five or six back in 2001, so obviously I haven't watched it very long, but for the months and months that I have watched the show, I can tell it's probably one of the greatest teenage shows out there - it deals with teens and all problems they may face during their tough high school years, in a realistic way.

Pretty much all of the characters, I believe, are from Canada. Canada has some talent, and the creators of Degrassi found the perfect people to play their characters. At least some of the old characters. However, I'm not a fan of some of the new characters, like, Mia, Alli, and Claire. Mia to me just seems to force things, like she did Peter. Peter (Jamie Johnston) had originally been in a relationship with a beautiful girl named Darcy (Shenae Grimes) until she moved to Kenya to help build a school for poor children, or something. Right there, that's another thing I get annoyed at. The lame excuses for the characters leaving the show. Shenae Grimes actually left the show because some Beverly show stole her. I was a big fan of her's. Anyhow, Mia gets upset just because Peter still misses her.

Alli and Claire are some of the younger ones and they are really annoying. Alli is a wanna-be Miss Popularity...and Claire is this stupid private-school-girl that goes to a public school in Degrassi. All she cares about is schoolwork. Nobody likes someone like that.

The characters I have really liked over the years have been Manny Santos, Spinner Mason, Ellie Nash, Craig Manning. I've also liked Sav and Anya - out of some of the newer characters. Manny (Cassie Steele) is a great singer and actress, and always looks to have fun. She has a great smile and she is very attractive. Spinner is great because, if you look at him, he looks pretty tough, but really - he's just trying to do the right thing, and he's pretty funny. Ellie and Craig fit together - I saw that after watching "Degrassi Goes Hollywood" earlier this summer. It's a shame they aren't together.

Well you've heard my two cents. Degrassi's a great show, highly recomend watching it.

Ohh Degrassi how the years have changed you! hide show

I'm not gonna lie I like the new Degrassi, sure its a little more dramatic and slightly over the top then the old one but I love it none the less. I'm a HUGE fan of the old Degrassi, seeing as how I grew up with it when I was a kid. And I was pretty stoked to see that they were going to keep it going. The old Degrassi was all about the basic things that went on in a teenagers life and I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't take all the old themes from the first and just throw some new characters into the new one. I do however like how they didn't forget the original roots. I like how they had Spikes daughter Emma one of the kids and how the old kids are now grown ups. Its always nice to see them grow up and know whats become of them.

    Good On ya Degrassi!

This is a great show! hide show

The show is an amazing show. Many teens can watch this show because it relates to the problems and issues that many of teens face each day. Degrassi gives parents a look into what types of issues teens face. The show finds a way to be able to deals with these problems. Watching Degrassi provides a way for parents and teens to be able to talk about what problems and issues teens face. The Creators of Degrassi have created a very special show that we can watch for a long time. This is a great show for people to watch.

    7.5 Good

Real teens facing real problems in the real world. hide show

I first discovered Degrassi durig its 3rd season and became an instant addict, even though I don't have the-n. I have seasons 2,3,5, and 6 on dvd (I really need to get 4) and I was a die hard. The show was really good from Seasons 2-5, with good acting, hard-hitting but realistic storylines, and average teenagers with average amounts of wealth and average appearances, not the super-rich, over the top 20-somethings-pretending-to be 15 like on the OC and 90210. Every two part episode was a memorable moment and was really intense. They really developed the characters without sacrificing plot.

Then it started going downhill. Season 6 wasn't awful, but it wasn't on the same par as the previous seasons. There was a good cast and some good things happening, but some of the major events weren't really "going there." JT's death, Darcy's online exploits, and Alex's stripping were the only intense moments. Season 7 was only saved by Darcy's rape story arc. If you took that out of the equation, Season 7 was an overcrowded chaotic mess. The episodes were largely self-contained and it was more immature catty high school drama than hard hitting issues. Season 8 was a disaster. I would see the commercials for the next new episode and tune in expecting something major to happen, and then get nothing. Some storylines that would only get an episode in earlier seasons, were now getting two (like spinner getting rejected from police college, wow that's major) and alot of episodes were just filler. Then alot of characters ended up doing uncharacteristic things. I couldn't believe Holly J was crying and giving in to Alli's, a grade 9, intimidation. The real Holly J would've automatically set out to destroy her. And Emma a weed brownies?! That's just obsurd!

Degrassi keeps bringing in all of these new main characters, but they never get developed. I mean Degrassi already had a bunch of characters that never had a major plot before (Hazel, Toby, Liberty until Season 5, etc.) now they keep bringing new ones that have to get factored in while we still know nothing about the other ones. I liked it better when they would bring in new people one or two at a time as recurring characters like darcy and mia, then moved them to the main cast. At least we got to know them better and eventually accept them. The Lakehurst kids just got thrust into the mix and only a couple of them were in the same grade as some of the originals. However, the promos for season 9 look promising and seems that the new characters they're bringing in will make things interesting by creating rivalries and shaking things up. Hopefully Holly J wil get back to being mean, we can see more Riley who is the BEST new addition in Season 8, and Clare, KC, and Alli can get developed more. I also hope we can have a Chante, Blue, or Leia story going on so these characters can stop being sidekicks and become stand outs.

    Awesome show! hide show

Awesome show! I love all the drama of Degrassi: The Next Generation. I've watched this show from the beginning and I still really enjoy it. The issues handled in Degrassi are done quite well. The actors do a great job of making the characters relatable.

My favorite characters in the beginning were Spinner or Ellie. Spinner because he was always causing issues he had to dig himself out of and Ellie because she had a lot of drama in her life.

My current favorite character in newer seasons is Holly J. because I love all the drama she creates between her and other characters. But she can be nice when she wants to and after the Season 8 finale she'll probably realize that if she doesn't want to be a loner she'll have to a real friend to people. Can't wait for new episodes.
