TRIVIA

  • The set in the pilot is different from the set used in the rest of the series. For example, the foyer is deeper and has an entry closet. Also, the inside steps continue around the door rather than ending at the bottom of the staircase. Outside the front door, brick from the side of the house and part of the Sugarbaker's sign is visible. In the seating area, Julia's desk, instead of being in the back next to the staircase, is in the foreground. edit »
  • Raydon mentions having a sister named Carlene. Charlene then says she has sisters named Darlene, Marlene and Harlene, but does not mention her sister Carlene who takes over her job in the last few seasons. edit »

QUOTES

  • Suzanne: All I'm saying is, anyone can make sex new and exciting if you're creative about it.
Mary Jo: I guess I'm just not the exotic type. I see one of those electric personal massage deals and all I can think of is ...horrendous home safety accident! edit »
  • Ray Don: Allow me to introduce myself - Ray Don Simpson.
Julia: There's no need for introductions, Ray Don, we know who you are.
    Ray Don: You do?
Julia: Of course. You're the guy who is always wherever women gather or try to be alone. You want to eat with us when we're dining in hotels. You want to know if the book we're reading is any good or if you can keep us company on the plane. And I want to thank you, Ray Don, on behalf of all the women in the world, for your unfailing attention and concern. But read my lips and remember, as hard as it is to believe, sometimes we like talking just to each other, and sometimes we like just being alone. edit »
  • Julia: Personally, I can't stand a man who talks in bed, and the last thing I want is to lie around discussing the why's and wherefore's of who is going to be doing what to whom and for how long. I say just get the show on the road. edit »
  • Julia: Suzanne, if sex were fast food, there would be an arch over your bed. edit »

NOTES

  • Doc Severinson played the theme song music, "Georgia on my Mind". edit »
  • In the first few episodes, Charlene referred to Mary Jo as "Jo". edit »
  • This episode is also known as The Pilot. edit »
  • Delta Burke nearly wasn't a part of this series. Previously, she had played a similar character in Linda Bloodworth-Thomason's 1982-83 CBS comedy Filthy Rich alongside Dixie Carter. Although Bloodworth-Thomason wrote the part of Suzanne with Burke in mind, CBS executives didn't want two of the leads to be the same leads from an earlier failed comedy. Another actress was cast as Suzanne, but had to back out shortly before this episode was taped, leaving Burke to win the role that was written for her. edit »
