    Great episode! hide show

This episode of Desperate Housewives was a fine example of why we love to watch this show. There was drama, humor, an actual plot, and character development; and all that within one episode.

To me, the best storyline was Bree finding out about the Applewhites hiding Caleb in their 2nd story room and that this is the man the police is looking for. Bree's daughter, Danielle, however, is dumb enough to tell Matthew, Betty Applewhite's son, about her brother running over Mrs. Solis and his mother covering him so he doesn't have to go to jail.

Lynette & Tom work on a marketing pitch together creating a superb idea for a marketing campaign. As a result, Tom decides to apply for a job at Lynette's company so they have to work together for the entire campaign.

Gabrielle's got a plan to get rid off Sister Mary, which works out perfectly fine with Sister Mary being relocated to some church in Alaska. However, she wants to enjoy her moment of triumph and eventually starts a fight with Sister Mary in the church.

Finally, there's Susan's storyline about her and her boyfriend, the doctor, who she doesn't want to perform surgery on her. This storyline was more funny than dramatic but still good, though.

All in all this has to be among the best 2 episodes of this Season so far. If they can keep up the whit and the drama they incorporated into this episode, I think that we are heading towards a grand season finale.

i love the couples on this show!! hide show

lynette & tom are fast becoming my favourite couple on the show. i love that they keep trying, even though there is something that is so obviously off with their relationship. i really hope that they can pull it together, but for the time being, it is making for some great television.
carlos & gabby are great too. i knew she would end up wanting his baby. i can't wait until they are parents. they were so made for each other.

    i love this show!!

A great fight sequence between Gabby and Sister Mary! hide show

Matthew and Danielle's relationship is walked in upon by Bree, who marches them both across the street to Betty. When Bree tells Betty what she saw, Betty slaps Matthew and tells him to get inside. Susan has started dating Dr. Ron, and she finds out from him at the hospital that she needs a Splenectomy. She then finds out that it will be Dr. Ron's first time performing the operation, and it will be on her. This makes Susan a little uneasy, and Dr. Ron is a little hurt when she asks if she could have a more experienced doctor. Gabrielle becomes slightly uneasy when Carlos bring up the topic of trying for a baby again while they are in church. As the minister announces they have a special guest, Sister Mary Bernard stands up and walks up ready to speak. Gabrielle in shock yells out 'Son of a B!tch'. Tom wants to apply for a job at Lynette’s add agency, but Lynnette is unsure if they will be able to work together and be focused. She tells him she doesn't want to, but when the job interviews are taking place, he shows up anyway. An angry Lynette tries to make him look bad, but her boss loves him, and in the end, Tom ends up getting the job. Bree sees Caleb in the window of Betty's house, and ends up going home and calling all the housewives, saying she has news on the Applewhite's. She tells Danielle to stay away from Matthew, and tells her what she saw. Matthew and Danielle meet, and Danielle asks him, and Matthew tells her about Caleb, she then tells him about what happened with Andrew hitting Mama Solis last year. Betty arrives on Bree's doorstep, and tells her that she knows about what Andrew did, and they will both keep each others secrets. Gabby finds out that Sister Mary has tipped Carlos to get an annulment from her, so she goes to the confession booth, and tells the priest that Carlos admitted he has been sleeping with Sister Mary. Sister Mary then finds out she is being shipped off to Alaska. Gabrielle goes to give her one last kick while she’s down, and the two end up facing off in the church.

  • Goof: Sister Mary's sleeve catches fire. When it's extinguished there is no burn damage to the sleeve. []
  • In this episode we see Lynette coming for the back door twice. Why would she be doing that? She always parks her car in the front of the house, besides to get into the house that way she would have to walk around the whole house. []
  • At the beginning, when Karl is upstairs, he screams "Edie! It has been ten minutes". However, Edie's plate is still full. How is possible that after ten minutes she has not eaten anything? []
More Trivia
  • Due to time constraints, the opening credits were cut for time. []
  • Even though they are credited, James Denton (Mike Delfino), Mark Moses (Paul Young), Cody Kasch (Zach Young), Shawn Pyfrom (Andrew Van De Kamp), Brent Kinsman (Preston Scavo) and Shane Kinsman (Porter Scavo) do not appear in this episode. []
  • (After telling Father Crowley that Carlos is having an affair with Xiao-Mei, Gabrielle goes back to the confession booth to another priest)
Gabrielle: Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.
Priest: How long since your last confession?
Gabrielle: Mm, not that long ago. Look, I sorta told a fib, so how many 'Hail Marys' is that gonna set me back? []
  • Parker: So, who won the fight?
Tom: We weren't fighting, mommy's just letting daddy know where he stands.
    []
  • Susan: But I gotta be honest, the fact that you can't even cut that steak isn't helping.
Dr.Ron: That's not fair. You overcooked it, and, frankly, it's not the freshest meat.
Susan: Well, neither am I. I've got thirty-five years on that cow.

Allusions

  • Of Mice And Men: Caleb's character is very reminiscent of Lennine from John Steinbeck's novel "Of Mice And Men". A slow man running away for being convicted of a crime somewhere else, and getting in trouble in his new home. The line "she's purty" is said by both. This makes Danielle the equivalent of Curley's wife, Betty and Josh the George of the piece, and Bree is either Curley or Slim. If the story follows a similar tragic route, then the season finale could go off with a bang... []
  • Episode Title: The title of this episode comes from the Stephen Sondheim song of the same name. The song was originally written for Sondheim's 1962 musical "A Funny Thing Happened Happened On The Way To The Forum" but was not used. []
