Diana held a concert in Central Park, the proceeds of which were to go towards a playground in her name. 15 minutes into her show, which was being filmed live for Showtime cable television, it began to rain. Diana urged the audience of 300,000 to safely exit the arena, and return the following day. The following day, over 500,000 came back for one of the largest free concerts in the history of Central Park. The second show caused a problem for Mayor Ed Koch, who objected to the expenseof the 2nd show. To settle, Diana wrote a personal check for $250,000 to recover the remaining costs. The playground was erected 3 years later.

Diana Ross: (On Mary Wilson refusing to do the Supremes Reunion tour) I think if we had offered her the moon, she would not have been happy. I doubled this offer so that she could come and do this tour. She didn't have to pay for anything. Not a hotel room, not a car, not a gown, not a music arrangement, not a set, nothing. All she needed to do was to show up.

Diana Ross: (On Evan Ross' first movie role, ATL) Evan's performance was real. I was on the edge of my seat with tears in my eyes

Diana: I enjoy Beyonce's music and admire Alicia Keyes, Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. I'm ready to give advice and support to any of them that wants that. Because Mariah used to ask when I would spend time with her, I am available to discuss what it takes.

Diana: I’ve never found it hard to trust. I trust easily and usually right away. I’ll trust you until I find there’s a reason why I can’t.
(edit)
Diana: I think diva is a positive word. It’s the way you carry yourself and it’s all about being self-assured. These days everyone is called a diva. I don’t like labels and terms like ‘legend’. I’m so many different things to so many different people.
