CBS bringing classic survey show to evening with celeb wrinkle; Trump's tramp show gets eight-episode order from MTV.
Apparently some networks still haven't received the memo that the writers' strike is over, as reality television continues to infect primetime.
NBC is sticking with its plan to bring classics to its regularly scheduled programming (Knight Rider, American Gladiators, for example), and CBS is following suit by playin' the Feud in the evening. Family Feud, the long-running game show, is getting made over for a primetime appearance on the network this summer, says Variety.
The traditional format of the game show sees two clans of relatives duke it out by correctly predicting the results of surveys. The new version of the show will likely keep the similar format with one twist--the all too predictable celebrity cast of contestants.
Primetime game shows are in right now with studios. They're cheap, they pull in the ratings, and they're cheap (can't stress that enough). The recent primetime run of Price is Right impressed CBS enough to ask for more, and evening versions of Match Game and Million Dollar Password are in the works at TBS and CBS, respectively.
Slightly less classy is a new show from Donald Trump that has been given an eight-episode order on MTV, reports Variety. First revealed last June, the new reality program takes girls of... ummm... "questionable moral fiber" and throws them into a finishing school where they learn to be all proper-like.
Based on the UK's successful Ladette to a Lady, the untitled program (last June it had the working title Lady or a Tramp) is apparently an effort by MTV to focus on shows where contestants attempt to better themselves rather than spiral into oblivion and whore themselves out half-naked in hot tubs.
"We began to see in our research about three years ago that this next MTV generation is actually very empowered and highly functioning," said MTV executive Brian Graden.
Jamie Foxx's production company is pitching a similar show titled From G's to Gents (the first "G" stands for "Gangsta"!).

03/28/2008 22:01:14it took them this long to see that people don't want to see that sort of thing?
03/27/2008 17:15:59The current host of Family Fued is annoying and they need to go higher then $20,000 for the grand prize which it has been since Louie took over in 1999 and 2 hosts later its still the same amount.
03/27/2008 15:58:12In the last writers' strike we got Survivor. Now more "reality". What have the writers given us? Fifty years of sitcoms, cop, doctor and lawyer shows, none as good as the originals. Notice how Leno is now less funny than during the strike? Seen any good shows since they came back? No wonder the networks are going with more game and reality shows. The writers are striking themselves out of jobs. Good riddance.
03/27/2008 11:02:48Oh the Humanity! Shoot me now! DID YOU EXECS NOT REALIZE THAT THE WRITERS ARE THE KEY TO YOUR PROBLEMS-GOOD WRITERS-NOT CRAPPY, WORTHLESS, SOUL-KILLING REALITY TV!
