When you don't want to use the DVDs as Video DVDs in a Stand Alone DVD player you just can make a backup. Or burn them directly with any burning software you have.

When you want a Video DVD: You can't do that.

I don't think it's what he was refering to. When you buy Tv show or movie on iTunes, you can't burn them. To protect the copyrights and to stop any illegal copies, you can only view them with the account you used to buy them. If you loose all the stuff on your computer you loose them too.

The only way way to backup them is to backup your library. You can't view them outside of a computer with itunes and an internet connection. itunes will ask you to log into apple.com and authorize the new computer. You can only do that 5 time I think and after that you have to buy it again. You Can't re-download previously purchased material.

That's correct and I think I tried to write that. Still you can make a backup and burn that - even to store it, you just need to activate it again when you load it again.

Amazing how it's cheaper to just buy the show on DVD. DVDs you can touch and put on bookshelves and conviently pop into your TV and not worry about them randomly erasing themselves. Not to mention all the extras and artwork you get. Digital files are like those little bits that Pac Man eats. They exist because your screen says so, but if Mr. Chompy decides to comes by... poof!

You can backup shows to dvd using itunes but you can't burn them to dvd to watch on a dvd player.

The way to backup is the same as doing you music library. You can back up the entire library (including videos, tvshows, movies) or just back up what was downloaded since your last backup.

To do this go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced tab, Burning Tab, choose Data CD, DVD. When you burn your backup it will be a data recovery disk that can only be reread by your computer to restore your library in an event of failure. I do this backup regularly as well as have it all on my ipod which acts as a backup as well.

Yeah, DVDs are definitely better but iTunes and Amazon Unbox downloads are available almost immediately after the episode airs. Each has a different purpose.
