A fun trip of the surreal life in New York. hide « show »

A very different adult humour show. Plenty of sexual innuendo without being ignorant. A diverse group of characters that reflect different personalities and how they deal with their lives. The creators relied heavily on adapting their characters from people they knew or had met out on the New York streets. The first animation on Mtv to use Digital Ink and Paint. The animation has a realistic style portraying the gritty look of New York but with surreal coloring. The use of lighting and shadows is extensive and very detailed. The voice actors were chosen with realistic ages for the character they were speaking for and were given leeway to change parts of story or script to more accurately reflect reality. this was adult animation at it's very best.

Basically the shows about people in new York in 1999 before all of this 911 stuff any way they have real like life stories and they made you believe that there's cool people like this in new york! with all of the Dame shows now on MTV that have dumb idiots hurting them selves to make people due the same there's a slim chance of the show coming back this was a grate show don't get me wrong but the MTV watchers to day would int like a show like this so MTV has to be a puss about it and cancel it with other grate shows like Daria clone high and EM the wonder show

A real shame it didn't last. hide « show »

It's strange that so many wonderful MTV shows never seem to make it past their first season. Downtown was superbly written, and wonderfully casted. Almost every character reminded me of someone I knew, and I wished that I could join them in their misadventures. They made me want to move downtown, myself.

A real shame. Shame, that MTV has chosen to show some more guys hurting themselves in many stupid ways, than to give some more founds for next episodes of Downtown. hide « show »

Only 13 episodes. Only about 25 minutes each. But when credits appear in the end, You just think- "Why wasn't it longer???". Damn, every single one episode is a fine example of masterpiece.
Well, animation and design can be kind of crappy to someone, who grown up watching billion-dollar Pixar or Dreamworks nimated production, but for people, who think, that the good script makes a cartoon watchable, will fall in love with Downtown.
We've got everything here, what makes an adult cartoon a good production- characters, that many pople can identify with, nicely shown living in a big city, script full of allusions, easter eggs and a bit of adult content. That makes watching Downtown a great experience- You will laugh and think at same time, because in sarcastic and amusing way, authors also send us some really important messages about moral aspects of our life choices etc. I loved it, You will too.
MTV should air it once more. Or bettr- make some new episodes.
