Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas departs writing gig on 90210; Jennie Garth rumored to join cast.

One of the big draws that kept the upcoming contemporary spin-off of Beverly Hills, 90210 from sounding absolutely stupid was the fact that the very capable Rob Thomas was attached to oversee things.

Thomas, who created Veronica Mars and Cupid, was brought on to write the 90210 2.0 pilot script and run the show. It would be his first major project since Veronica. But then a funny thing happened: Everyone (well, mostly ABC) wanted to work with Thomas. Within weeks of getting the gig on 90210, two of his pilots were picked up by ABC: a remake of Cupid and an adaptation of the New Zealand hit Outrageous Fortune.

With all of this on his plate, Thomas has decided to leave his main duties as head writer on the new 90210, says E! Online. Thomas will focus his attention on his new projects, but will still be involved with 90210 in some capacity.

In other 90210 news, actress Jennie Garth--who played Kelly on the original Beverly Hills--has abruptly quit her recently announced job as star in an upcoming CBS comedy pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Now, rumors are flying that her departure is linked to her joining the cast of the new 90210. Producers had been saying that they wanted an original cast member to be featured in the spin-off.

Should Garth sign on, she'd join new cast member Annalynne McCord, who was recently cast as Naomi, the hot, rich, popular girl on campus. Also signed on to the show is actor Dustin Milligan.

Forget about the high school!

the obvious answer is that Veronica Mars and her dad move to 90210 and set up shop as the newest P.I.'s in the hills!

Just imagine all the crimes she could solve there! Get Shannon Doherty as her mean P.I.rival who will do anything to win a case, and add Jenny Garth and Tori spelling as her new 90210 socialite best friends (who used to be friends with Shannon, of course, making her even meaner now!) Put in Tiffany Amber Thiesen in the dual role as Valerie, and as her long lost cousin Kelly Kapowski (as in Saved by the bell), and you would have a huge hit series! Are you listening, Rob???

Actually Mad_Buck, it's been rumored that she left the other pilot due to the death of her father. Only now is she considering more work.

If we get the remake of Outrageous Fortune here in Australia will defiantly watch it as I am a huge fan of the original.

She is so beautiful on that pic! I seemed to see she had a personal account on the millionaire&celebs dating site MEETRICH. C O M with profile and blog when looking for dates and fun with hot girls there recently. The blog was updated very often. Lots of guys joined in her friend circle.

is a remake of Cupid (or 90210 for that matter, even though i loved it) really necessary? not excited about Outrageous Fortune, either. oh well, we'll always have three seasons of V. Mars...

Ha! The name Rob Thomas was the only thing that made it sound like it could possibly work. I'm scared of the complete disaster now. I mean, I'm sure the new kids will like it, but for all the old fans out there, this is gonna be painful.
But if Jennie Garth is in, I do hope she's there as Kelly Taylor. Else it would be way too weird and I doubt any of the old fans will dare watching, and it would be sad since it's the only thing that would get them to watch.
Though I guess it can't be Kelly, else they'd have to make tons of excuses as to where are all the other ones...
