1. Season 1 Thoughts? | 06/08/2006 11:51pm

Having the box set for a year now, i just watched it all again..Here are some of my thoughts...Fallon and Steven are the stars of this show.  I only wish both actors would have stay and not be replaced...Blake is S.O.B...he really is...and Krystle is a dumb wit for even staying with him

12 years ago, when I first saw this season, I hated Matthew and Claudia storyline....age does help, i was 14 at that time..wow. I mean the writers actually care about their characters...

I also like Matthew and Krystle together...they make more sense.

thoughts?

You're so right.

When I watched the season again I was amazed to find out how much Blake is indeed a SOB. and as a child, I remembered him as a nice old man.

I think that from season 2 onwards, it changes when Alexis enters the picture. Then Krystle grows some character.

and I really loved the original Fallon and Steven. Fallon was quite the B**ch back then

If you guys hated Blake during season 1, then that's the way it was supposed to be.  Blake was originally envisioned as a "J.R. Ewing" type of character - a powerful, ruthless oilman who takes no crap for anybody and who controls those around him.  I hear that the character was actually more written as more evil.  Actor George Peppard (of "The A-Team") was originally hired to play Blake, and they filmed a pilot with him in it, but after he kept begging producers to soften up the character of Blake, he was fired and replaced by John Forsythe.  John too then asked the producers to soften Blake's character and they gave in a little, but it was not until Joan came on to be the villainess that Blake went from being a bad guy to a good guy.

The Mathew and Claudia storyline is very weak.  Blake is definitely an S.O.B. in season one.  The series was in need of Joan Collins, however Steven and Fallon made it watchable.

Blake was a very hurt man inside from a failed marriage, his children seemed to have no interest and he was still mis trusting among other things as time went on a caring and loving side of him came out. Krytle definitely brought out the best in him. Fallon was so lose it was crazy but she was really cool when you got to know her.

Steven was very sensitive and caring and yes misunderstood to a point.

Joseph could not have stayed on my employment register the first 2 seasons he was such a snot it was crazy.

It was good but sort of slow but I think they were establishing the characters.

I watched it 25 years ago and was instantly won over by the Steven and Fallon characters. At the time I loved the bond of the two missfits Steven and Claudia. Claudia remained one of my favorites until she went up in flames.

Another great character was the house, and thinking about it now, Krystle was just part of the furniture and Blake a dark cloud hanging above it.

The outdoor scenes in the oilfields were a good counter weight against the glamour and (80's)style that would massively invade the show in later seasons. I liked the dusty roughness.

Though I collect the DVD's (bring them out faster, and the Colby's to), I have not watched them yet. But desperate Steven and temptress Fallon stick in my mind.
