  • If you thought you'd seen the last of Johnny Allen...

Billy Murray has signed on to appear as Johnny Allen in a handful of episodes this Autumn just five months after his exit from the show.

There's little known about the circumstances of the character's return but what we do know is that it will be involved with the exit of his on screen daughter Ruby (Louisa Lytton).

Of his return, the 64-year-old actor said: "Viewers are in for a treat. I'm pleased to be back for such an exciting storyline."

Johnny will most likely appear from behind bars and not in Albert Square since he's currently locked away for 27 years on a murder charge.

  • From Gosford Park to Albert Square...

This story is from Digital Spy.

Gosford Park actress Sophie Thompson has joined the cast of EastEnders.

Sophie - sister to Emma "Nanny McPhee" Thompson - has landed the part of London-based lawyer Stella Crawford.

Not much is known about Stella and she seems to have secrets to hide. Stella used to be a high flying career woman in the city but her career took a turn for the worse at the same time as her marriage.

Of her new role, the actress said: "Joining EastEnders is a bit like being welcomed into a really special playground that you never thought you had the chance to play in and you are rather in awe of all the kids but very excited."

Stella will appear in Walford within the next couple of months.

  • Ex-star slams writers!

This story is from Digital Spy.

Former EastEnders star Tracy-Ann Oberman has blasted show script writers claiming they "must have been on crack" when they penned her storylines.

Pregnant Tracy-Ann, 37, played the venomous Chrissie Watts for one year and bowed out of the show last Christmas after her alias murdered on-screen husband Den Watts (Leslie Grantham).

Of the storyline, the actress told the Radio Times: "It didn’t make logical or emotional sense - but they said, 'That’s the soap convention, dear, get used to it'.

"I was worried when four-year-olds said to me, 'I saw you kill Den.' I don’t agree with censorship but there has to be a level of responsibility."

Speaking of her time with the show, she went on: "Let’s say they were interesting times. Each executive producer brought in new writing teams. It was a challenge, particularly when the storylines made you laugh out loud. You imagined the writer must have been on crack when they wrote it.

"Because of the ratings war, soap stories become increasingly outrageous, violent and sexual, and less an everyday tale of normal folk. There was a point where every character had been involved in a murder."

She added: "I learnt a lot. In 18 months I knocked up four years of acting experience."

  • Comings and Goings

Here at the EastEnders TV.com guide there have been a few changes, notably that buffyfan981 is no longer the editor of the guide. When he originally took on the EastEnders guide at TV Tome he transformed it from being a mess to being the tidy guide you see today and I congratulate him for it.

Over the next few months I'm hoping to update the guide further, by attempting to keep the episode guide up to date and by reorganizing the episodes to include some of the earlier and most memorable EastEnders moments - these updates will require the current episodes to be jilted around a bit so I ask for you patience while that goes on.

There are also changes afoot on the show itself, there's been an influx of new characters of late, all of whom have now been added to the cast guide here, there are a few more new characters to come and a few old friends will be leaving Albert Square. For those of you who don't know, here's the comings and goings in the near future:

    Going Soon:

    • Juley Smith (played by Joseph Kpobie - due to leave summer 2006)
    • Jake Moon (played by Joel Beckett - due to leave before the end of 2006)
    • Ruby Allen (played by Louisa Lytton - due to leave November 2006)
    • Pauline Fowler (played by Wendy Richard - due to leave Christmas 2006)
    • Sonia Fowler (played by Natalie Cassidy - due to leave Autumn 2007)
    • Martin Fowler (played by James Alexandrou - due to leave in 2007)

    Coming Soon:

    • Sid Fletcher (played by Simon Gleeson - Sid is SJ's brother, due to appear August 2006)
    • Sean Slater (played by Robert Kazinsky - Sean is Stacey's brother, due to appear August 2006)

    Keep watching!
