Elizabeth Banks was born as Elizabeth Maresal Mitchell in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on February 10, 1974. Elizabeth says often that she has been seen as a goody two-shoes in her youth and infancy. After completing secondary education at Pittsfield High School in 1992, she left home to go to college where she attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating Magna cum Laude in 1996. She then finished the Advanced Training Program at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco in 1998.
Afterwards, she moved to New York acting in screen roles in theater, bit parts in movies, and some guest star appearances in a few TV series. Wanting to gain more experience and screen exposure, she moved to Los Angeles where she had to change her name from Elizabeth Mitchell to Elizabeth Banks since another actress had the same name. Soon thereafter, her talent and beauty was recognized as she portrayed Betty Brant in Spider-Man.
Since then, Elizabeth Banks has garnered several roles in movies and TV shows, most notable of which is her urologist character Dr. Kim Briggs on the medical-comedy, Scrubs. After her small roles in the 2002 films Swept Away and Catch Me If You Can, she later appeared, with more prominence, in the movies Seabiscuit (2003), the Spider-Man sequels (2004/2007), Slither (2006), Definitely, Maybe (2008), Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), and The Uninvited (2009) among others.
