Born and raised in Toronto, McCormack began acting in high school and continued during his college years at the Ryerson Theatre School. He spent the next seven years working in Canadian theater, including five seasons with the Stratford Festival, where he appeared in "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Henry V," "Murder in the Cathedral" and "Three Sisters." He also performed with the Manitoba Theatre Centre in "Burn This" and at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre in "Biloxi Blues."

On television, McCormack spent two years as the dashing Colonel Mosby on the series "Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years," and he has appeared as a guest star on "Ally McBeal" and NBC's "Veronica's Closet." His television movies include leading roles in "Audrey Hepburn" with Jennifer Love Hewitt, the highly rated "Borrowed Hearts" with Roma Downey, and in the NBC miniseries "A Will of Their Own."

McCormack also starred in the feature "Old Hats" (with Ossie Davis and James Whitmore), and recently appeared in "The Holy Man" with Eddie Murphy and Jeff Goldblum. He also starred in the independent feature "Free Enterprise."

In November 2001, McCormack won his first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on "Will & Grace." In 2001, he starred as Harold Hill in "The Music Man" on Broadway and in 2003 in The Play What I Wrote.

McCormack and his wife divide their time between their permanent home in Los Angeles and a second home in Vancouver. I like this guy he is a absolutely perfect and magnificent actor. He is the funniest Canadian actor to ever live. I see him many great tv shows. My favorite role of him is Mason in tv show Trust Me. I also like him for his role in Will and Grace. He was also good for his role in hit cult film, Free Enterprise with William Shatner. People should meet him.

What an actor! It's not everybody who can play a Gay character during more than 7 years, but he has been able to do it. Great actor and great Canadian.

Eric McCormack is just Fantastic!!! He is just such a great actor especially in will&grace.. as a straight men He plays a Gay man just perfect. He and Debra are amazing on screen! he is also very very very very hot! And he has such a great voice. Eric is very funny, very talented and I hate that will&grace came to an end! he is just amazing in everything that he does he is a wonderful actor and i hope that he will make a lot of movies later so that we still can see him and his wonderful acting!

I first recognized Eric McCormack as the villian in the
TV show of Lonesome Dove as the nemesis to the hero
Newt McCall but really fell in love with him in
Will & Grace as he is handsome and funny in the show
Hope that he lands another role because he is talented
Let's hope and pray that there won't be a Senfield curse

I love his character! He is so funny, I am an all time fan. Will & Grace is one of the best shows of all time. I do have one thing though, they are so quick, it's a little unrealistic, yet utterly hilarious. I just love it so much. Thank you god for this show!
