  • Eureka is supposedly in Idaho right?

Because there is one in Montana and is fairly close to the ID border. I wonder if that's the town that they intended to use and why they decided to move it to Idaho. This also seems similar to SGs use of the cheyenne mountain complex, which is a real place. So I wonder why they moved the city.

This show is great! I love the character interactions and the dynamics of the science fiction. hide show

The show is all about science-fiction in the here and now. A hidden town, a top secret base, and of course the 'adverage' sheriff who keeps the peace. You have your smart people (or genius if you prefer) who are always running these top secret projects. The smart house SARAH (a bunker)the sheriff lives in. It always starts out so calm and serene. Then one of the experiments that the sheriff isn't supposed to know about goes hay-wire and the sheriff is always thinking up 'dumb' ways to 'save the day' that works in the nick of time.
I know it sounds a little cliche but it's really humerous. I get a lot of laughs out of it.

Excellent Escapism for non-runners hide show

There is a lot to be said for this series. flaky, goofy and at times weird. However, it is not boring, and heaps fun to watch. Between the layers of gadget, gizmo's and special effects lies a deeper story, layered like cake with snappy dialogues. The dialogues between Stark and Carter are nothing short of hilarious and they both have the power and charisma to show that there is more to life. See this not as some deep philosophical series. This is simple high-grade entertainment, where we see that the totally uber-modern stark still gets slapped around technically by the sherrif who stopped evolving with the start of the microwave. Add to that the women who's beauty jump top models by the graces of their played IQ and you have for an interesting mix. Special mention to Joe Morton who plays Henry Deacon. The garage man who can challenge Einstein and is pretty much a moral anchor for all the people. He is just out there making it happen. In the end, you wonder what makes this series work, and it does. Almost all are unknown elements who are excelling in making you forget about your daily worries. Excellent show!

Love This show. Just the escapism I need. hide show

Love This show. Just the escapism I need. Everybody is fun and the quality of acting is superb. I say that because now and then I find myself arguing with the various characters' actions. I hope they mature the daughter's role. Petulant, rebellious, "adults know nothing", teenage angst gets old quickly. Sometimes I think that they got to the "save the whole world" plots too quickly and they won't have any decent directions to go in. They have already "started over" once after the Carter's marriage story arc. But then again I have respect for the writers ability that they have proven in the past. Keep up the good work.

A fantasic show that has one of the most original themes i have seen for years.

    Simply superb. hide show

Eureka takes place in a high tech community of the same name, located somewhere in the Pacific Northwest (implied to be Oregon, due to the presence of Oregon maps and flags. However, Jack Carter's promotion letter in the pilot episode clearly labels it as the town of Eureka, Washington) and inhabited entirely by brilliant scientists working on new scientific advancements for the United States government that frequently go disastrously awry. The town's existence and location are closely guarded secrets.

U.S. Marshal Jack Carter stumbles upon Eureka while transporting a fugitive prisoner - his own rebellious teenage daughter Zoe - back to her mother's home in Los Angeles. When a faulty experiment cripples the sheriff of Eureka, Carter finds himself quickly chosen to fill the vacancy. Despite not being a genius like most members of the town, Jack Carter's ability to connect to others repeatedly saves Eureka, and indeed the entire world, from one would-be disaster after another.

Interesing and quirky characters coupled with interesting and fantastical story line in a mix of pure comedy and seriousness makes Eureka the most original and entertaining series i have seen in many years.

Lighter side of sci-fi hide show

Eureka is the yin to X-file's yang. It isn't really looking to compete with the dramatic sci-fi shows but, rather, a sitcom version that's like popping Barney Fife on board the Enterprise. The elite genius creme-de-la-creme sometimes miss the obvious due to overthinking aspect of higher science. Furthermore, much of the science isn't weapons grade, military use only. It's simply, if unbelievably, the day to day application that falls in line with what average humans would enjoy in the future. For example, would we have believed in the mid-80s that we would give up our huge ghetto-blaster sound systems for the tiny I-pod? Our Atari Pac-man for X-box 360 Bio-shock? Our TV shows for webisodes? It's the next step in bringing sci-fi to those who doesn't like sci-fi or don't understand the appeal. Casting is good, not stellar, and gives characters who perhaps seems a bit blase about certain things. For example, I think that Allison is far too much the straight man. I'm not a huge fan of hit and miss love connections and this sort of show simply cannot help but fall back on such trivial nonsense. It gives the science a counter balance if it doesn't give the "hook" it is meant to.
