Eva Marie Saint studied acting at Bowling Green State University, and found work in radio and television before going on to win the Drama Critics Award for her stage role in 1953's A Trip to Bountiful. Her film career began with starring alongside Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, earning herself an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Her other well known films came early in her career and included Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest and Exodus with Paul Newman. The quality of the roles she was offered declined somewhat in the 1970s and because of that she headed back to television and stage in the '80s. She has had a variety of roles and has starred in many made-for-TV movies. In 1990 she was awarded an Emmy for the mini-series People Like Us. She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for movies and one for television. Eva Marie Saint played one of most famous female leads in movie history, in an Academy Award-winning performance opposite Marlon Brando in Elia Kazan's On the Waterfront (1954). Eva Marie Saint certainly brought "real acting" in a time when melodrama still ran rampant in the industry. Who can forget her memorable argument scene with Brando when she says, "I didn't say I don't love you, I said I want you to get out."Eva Marie gave a strong impression in "Waterfront," but to most people, she is best known for playing Eve Kendell, the sultry spy in Alfred Hitchcock's classic lightweight thriller North by Northwest (1959), where she starred opposite Cary Grant. Although her appearances on the big screen have come few and far between, she manages to deliver strongly in every performance.
