As the episode opens Irv and Edna are snowshoeing. They are watching snow owls. Irv suddenly starts having severe chest pains, and sends Edna for help. it turns out that it is just a cardiac episode. Nothing major, but he must get his blood pressure down, and take it easy for a few days. He does not want to take it easy. Edna gets very upset with him for worrying her.
Dr. Trott, the traveling psychologist has returned to town to do her annual couple's therapy for Valentine's Day. Rose wants her and Harold to go, but he thinks it's a waste of time. He agrees to go, but then just upsets Rose in the session by being insensitive.
Edna and Irv make up as do Rose and Harold. The men realize that they were being insensitive, and apologize.
Ephram and Laynie start hanging out a bit. Amy encourages Ephram to ask Laynie out. He asks her out of Valentine's Day, and she accepts. They go skating with Colin and Amy, who seem to be getting along well.
On the date Ephram and Laynie are enjoying themselves. This clearly bothers Amy, and Colin calls her on it. He tells her that he knows that something went on with her and Ephram. Amy admits to their friendship and their kisses. She explains that Ephram brought some normalcy to her life that was torn apart by Colin's accident.
Colin accepts her explanation, but tells her that she need to make a choice. He wants to be with her, and she needs to decide if she wants to be with the new Colin, or Ephram. Colin is leaving for a week for tests. Amy makes no decision, but decides to spend some time with Ephram, who has expressed his like for Laynie.
Also, this week Andy realizes it is time to move on with his life. He has a very uncomfortable lunch date with Gretchen Trott. However, later he loosens up a bit and they enjoy an evening together that ends with them in bed. Andy is very uncomfortable with the situation. Gretchen suggests that he needs closure with Julia. Andy writes a letter to Julia telling her all the things he never told her when she was alive.
