Avengers: The shirt the comic book shop owner is wearing is a Avengers T-Shirt.
The Avengers are a team of Marvel Comic Super Heroes (edit) The recurring role of Bill Parker is played in this and other episodes by Patricia Heaton's real-life husband, David Hunt. (edit) Ally is described in this episode (and several other episodes this season) as being seven years old. But since she was five in the first season, she's actually supposed to be nine at this point in the show. Same goes with the ninth season: She was said to be 12 when she was really supposed to be 14. (edit) The character of Amy's brother returns with Chris Elliot playing him, and his name is changed from Russell to Peter. (After this episode aired, Paul Reubens was arrested on child pornography charges. As a result, Ray Romano demanded that he be dropped from the show's cast.) (edit) If you look behind Debra and Frank when the family talk about the cards, you can see a penguin doll, which is the same doll that the character Joey from the sitcom "Friends" has in his apartment named Hugsy. (edit)

Frank: (To Ray) I'm sorry I ruined your cards already. It's the one thing I did wrong.
Robert: The one thing? How about when I was ten years old and you backed your car over my big toe?
Frank: Doesn't ring a bell. (edit) Marie: Frank, I'm not gonna tell you again. Go clean your whiskers out of the sink.
Frank: After you. (edit) Russell: Amy's a supporter.
Ray: Yes, I know
Russell: She's the one who said I should open a comic book store when the rest of the family was saying 'Up your medication.' (edit) Russell: You should've dated Amy.
Ray: Don't think I haven't thought of that. (edit) Robert: (when Ray makes a comment about "Debra's boyfriend Mr. Parker") Boyfriend, huh? Well, I guess that explains why the kids are all blonde.
Debra: And smart. (edit)

At the beginning of the scene where the three Barone kids are singing along to the Hackidu song with Robert on the couch, the scene opens with a picture of the house from the outside, and it is light and not raining at all. Then, when Ray comes in minutes later, it is suddenly dark and pouring rain.
(edit)
Amy's brother "Russel" played by Paul Reubens, aka PeeWee Herman, tells Raymond that Robert is "too uptight and that he should learn to love himself, and there's nothing wrong in loving yourself." This is an inside joke and allusion to Paul Reubens arrest for "loving himself" in a adult theater in Florida in '91
(edit)
Pokémon Collectible Card Game: The entire episode's premise is a nod to the Pokémon collectible card game craze.
