EPISODE RECAP

This episode is one of many that start off with Ray interacting with a sports celebrity. In the opening scene, he is interviewing Tommy Lasorda over the phone. Ally walks by with a cookie and Ray yells at her for having it. It turns out Tommy is eating a cookie as well.

Ray and Debra are eating at Nemo's with their friends Bernie and Linda. Bernie and Linda have no trouble showing their affection publicly, which makes Ray uncomfortable. He sarcastically asks Debra "Did you order foreplay?" while Linda and Bernie make out at the table. Ray goes to kiss Debra unromantically and she says "That's it?".

When they return home, Ray keeps asking Debra if she's ok. She keeps saying she's fine, but Ray knows there is something wrong. As usual, Ray's family is there and in a funny bit Robert walks downstairs, wet and wearing Debra's towel. He informs Ray that his shower is broken.

In their room, Debra says she wishes Ray said "I love you" more and was more affectionate. The next morning, Ray gives Debra an "I love you" card, and admits that he can't say it out loud. He's afraid someone will laugh at him when he does. Debra tries to get him to say it by saying "I love you" to him, but the closest Ray can come to saying it is "And I you."

While Frank is trying to fix the shower Ray asks for his advice on the love matter. Frank says "This is real life Rymond, people don't just go around saying that." Marie walks in and agrees with Frank. They both admit their parents never told them "I love you."

Downstairs in the kitchen, Ray tells Debra he'll try to change. Ray's parents come into the kitchen and breakdown, saying "I love you" to Ray. Marie goes around hugging everyone. Robert walks in and Marie hugs him and apologizes for not saying "I love you" to him as a child. In a rare showing of sappy emotion, Frank gives Ray a hug. Robert then proceeds to give Ray a hug too. Marie and Frank then discover that the problem had not been between them and Ray, it was between Ray and Debra. Frank says to Marie and Robert "This love stuff...we never mention it again."

As Ray is about to leave for his trip, he makes the bed. Debra walks in and they share passionate kisses. Ray leaves, but comes back a second later. He kisses Debra and finally says "I love you." Debra bursts into laughter, and as they leave the scene Ray says he'll only say "I love you" in cards from now on.
