Ray is overjoyed by the reaction he is getting from friends and family who received a personalized "Barone" toaster from him as a gift--even Debra's pretentious parents are thrilled with it. But, having heard nothing from his parents, Ray confronts Frank and Marie, the two people whose approval matters most, and is amazed beyond belief to hear what they did with the gift--and then what they resort to in order to get it back.

Ray: She said it was the trash can.
Frank: I traded up to the trash can. (edit) Ray: Which wrapping did you use?
Debra: The foil.
Ray: No! That tips off the gift! Foil wrapping, it's a metal toaster! Awww, why didn't you just wrap it in toast? (edit) Lois: (about the toaster) It's so... retro-chic.
Raymond: Are you making fun of me? (edit) Ray: Look at me. I'm a goofy doofus with a foofy toaster. (edit) Marie: Don't you tell me to be quiet! I have a mind of my own you know! I can contribute! I'm not just some... trophy wife!
Frank: You're a trophy wife? What contest in hell did I win? (edit)

Ray's real-life brother Rich Romano appears briefly as a security guard in the store scene. The character of Robert was based on this real-life brother.
