The Wedding (2)

Episode Number: 47    Season Num: 2    First Aired: Monday May 18, 1998    Prod Code: 9725
While the Barones prepare for a friend's wedding, Ray kiddingly asks Debra, "Why did you marry me?" When she hesitates, he flashes back to the not-so-magical night 10 years before when he popped the big question. Ray gets unexpected, unsolicited and unwelcome help with from his parents, but Debra says yes anyway. That leaves the gloomy groom wondering if she did so because she loves him or because she felt pressured. So Ray decides he's "gotta give her another chance to say no."

Notes

add »
The young girl playing the ring bearer is Ray's real-life daugther Alexandra Romano. She actually plays Ally's friend Molly in many episodes and Molly is the daughter of Ray's nemesis Peggy, aka the cookie lady. (edit)
This was the last episode where Kevin James was a recurring character named Kevin. The next episode he was in was "The Lone Barone" but in that episode he became known as Doug as in The King of Queens. This results in the two shows tying in together on several episodes. (edit)
Music: "Claire De Lune" by Claude Debussy (edit)
The August 1998 rerun of this episode was dedicated to "Our Uncle Mel, Phil Leeds 1916-1998." Phil, who was a well-recognized character actor, died in early August 1998. (edit)

Ray: There it is!
Debra: There what is?
Debra: You don't really want me. You want the dress, and the flowers, and the doilies with the little paper panties!
Debra: (long pause) You are so full of it! (imitating Ray) "Oh, she's just doing this so she can have her big wedding!" Why don't you admit the truth? You're afraid of moving out of your parents' house and actually starting a real life. Well, you know what? I meant what I said, I LOVE YOU! (pushes him onto couch) And you love me, and we're going to get married. So if you've got cold feet, you go get some socks! (storms out)
Ray: Boy, she really wants that wedding. (edit)
Father Hubley: Are children planned?
Debra: Oh, yes, definitely. We plan on having a big family.
Father Hubley: Raymond?
Ray: Oh....well, you know, I never really thought about it.
Debra: We talked about it!
Ray: That doesn't mean I thought about it! (edit)
Marie: You had to ruin the happiest day of our lives! And don't sit next to me in there!
Frank: There's no room next to you! (to Ray) So you're getting married, huh? That's great. (edit)
Debra: How could you ever doubt that I wanted to marry you?
Ray: I'm still not convinced. (edit)

Trivia

add »
This episode's lunch special is pork and gravy with mahed potatoes, has or casserole, and a dinner roll. (edit)
At the beginning of the ceremony, Kevin is seen between Robert and Bernie and is all spiffy but when Debra is walking up the aisle with Warren, you see Kevin looking normal with a tux behind Lois and, then, a moment later, he is all spiffy again between Robert and Bernie. (edit)
In this episode it is Debra who introduces Father Hubley to Ray. However in The First Time, it appears Father Hubley is the family priest of the Barone family (and has been for a long time), and this time, it is Debra who is introduced to Father Hubley by Marie. (edit)
When Frank puts down the bottle of liquor, he puts it on the middle of the table. When Raymond picks it up, it is at the edge of the table. (edit)
