Perry Mason. Rockford Files. The Waltons. Drama has taken many forms over the television decades, and it is arguably now more potent than ever. Some of the best dramas ever made have been produced in the past several seasons--shows that will be remembered as classics in 30 years, long after TV and computers have merged into what will be called "The Funbox."

At TV.com, we are addicted to dramas. That should come as no surprise, since we are addicted to all genres of television. We have problems with limiting the TiVo, to be sure. Dramas, especially. Whether you like mysteries or family tension, our drama roundup has something that will grip you.

Lost - The Complete First Season

It's the show that Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card called "the greatest science fiction television series ever made," and it's all yours for the taking! This series tells the harrowing story of a group of people from all walks of life who are stranded on a desert island after a plane crash. At first, they think they will be rescued. Gradually, it dawns on them that for some reason, their plane was miles off course, and no one knows where they are. Then, things start happening. A giant polar bear attacks and kills the pilot. A mysterious radio signal repeats over and over. A French woman warns them of people called "the others." They find a mysterious hatch that leads into the ground...locked from the inside! You'll be glued to your couch with this series, created by Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams.

This seven-disc set contains all 24 episodes from season one, as well as bonus commentary, cast interviews, bloopers, promos, deleted scenes, and multiple featurettes. Find fantastic viewing with Lost.

Desperate Housewives - The Complete First Season

Desperate Housewives, ABC's surprise breakout hit, is available on DVD for season one. Bask in Wisteria Lane's devilishly delightful blend of satire, drama, and mystery--from the gunshot that started it all to the tense cliff-hanger of the first season finale.

Six of the 23 episodes in this gorgeously packaged set can be viewed in an "unrated, extended" format with clarifying introductions from series creator Marc Cherry. Also included are deleted scenes from seven other episodes, audio commentaries from Cherry and the Emmy-nominated Desperate Housewives cast, a blooper reel, five fascinating featurettes, and "The New Neighbor," a special segment in which Oprah Winfrey arrives on Wisteria Lane.

This makes a great gift for a tried-and-true fan of the show, or for the soap opera and drama lover. A box full of dirty laundry has never been this much fun. Enjoy!

The O.C. - The Complete Second Season

California, here we come! The O.C.'s first and second seasons are available on DVD. The second season of Fox's hit teen soap serves up even more passion, drama, and laughter than the first. We learn more about Ryan, Marissa, Summer, Seth, and the rest of the characters as they grow, change, and react to the fallout of their past decisions. Ryan's brother, Trey, arrives in Newport Beach; Sandy and Kirsten's perfect marriage begins to crumble; and Marissa gets creative with her love life. Plotlines thicken and tension increases, all leading up to the explosive season finale.

This seven-disc set includes 24 great episodes, audio commentaries, the extended creator's cut of "The Rainy Day Women," a gag-and-goof reel, a documentary titled "Beachy Couture: How O.C. Fashion is Made," and a retrospective TV special titled "The O.C.--Obsess Completely."

The show might primarily focus on Seth and Ryan and their high school friends, but this series draws in adults as well as teens! Great for the fan with a flair for the dramatic, or even one who follows soap operas!

Gilmore Girls - The Complete Fifth Season

Season five of Gilmore Girls is peppered with the witty banter of Stars Hollow's favorite mother/daughter duo, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, as they go through ups and downs on the road of life. The Dragonfly Inn is a smashing success, and Lorelai and Luke's romance is growing stronger. Rory is discovering that not everything in life will come easy to her, and she breaks from her usual practical self to enter into an undefined relationship with wealthy heartbreaker Logan Huntzberger. The dramatic changes in Rory's life create a rift in her relationship with Lorelai, who is left wondering what happened to the confident intellectual that was once her daughter.

This six-disc, 22 episode set includes an in-depth look at the making of the 100th episode, as well as a feature that goes behind the scenes of that episode. Another added feature is "Who Wants to Talk Gilmore," a montage of season five's best dialogue exchanges.

This DVD hits the streets on December 13. Until then, check out a clip from season four!

This six-disc set contains all 22 episodes from the first season of this cult show. Veronica Mars is a teen who leads a double life: high school student by day, detective by night! Armed with a belief in right and wrong that only the young can possess, Veronica takes on the rich and corrupt power brokers of the seaside town of Neptune, California.

Extras include an extended version of the pilot with an unaired opening sequence, and more than 20 minutes of unaired scenes.

CSI - The Complete Fifth Season

CSI is the megablockbuster forensic crime drama series that has spawned several spin-offs and countless imitators. The brainchild of uberproducer Jerry Bruckheimer (Top Gun), CSI tells the riveting story of Los Angeles' elite team of forensic crime analysts. These brilliant doctors go to great lengths to reconstruct crimes from very little physical evidence. Like the Mounties, they always get their man!

Screen vet William Petersen plays gruff team leader Gil Grissom; Marg Helgenberger plays tough-as-nails Catherine Willows. CSI has been the number one show on television for more than three years--and it's easy to see why, with gripping episodes like "Nesting Dolls," which delves into the seamy world of mail-order brides, and a grisly two-hour season finale directed by Quentin Tarantino titled "Grave Danger."

You'll be reconstructing this hit series from plenty of physical evidence. This seven-disc boxed set includes all 24 episodes from season five, as well as exclusive bonuses like behind-the-scenes featurettes, interviews, and more!

This holiday, investigate intense drama!

This DVD hits the streets on November 29. Until then, check out a clip from season four!

The West Wing - The Complete Fifth Season

The West Wing marches on with the release of season five on DVD, with a release date of December 6. This season saw the gripping storyline of the kidnapping of President Bartlet's daughter, Zoey. His handle of that situation causes the Democratic administration to be led by a Republican, Speaker of the House Glenallen Walken, played by John Goodman. This season also marked the departure of creator Aaron Sorkin from the series, which left fans wondering if season five would hold up to the high-quality bar of previous seasons.

This six-disc set includes episode commentary, a presidential profile of character Josiah Bartlet and actor Martin Sheen, as well as never-seen-before scenes from three different episodes. A great gift to round out the collection of a confirmed fan, or for the drama fanatic.

ER - The Complete Fourth Season

With a release date of just a few days before Christmas (December 20), this is a perfect idea for last-minute shoppers (you know who you are). The pressure keeps building in this long-running, Emmy-winning drama. Season four is no exception, when it comes to excitement and interesting storylines that the early E.R. episodes were known for. Among other storylines, Alex Kingston, as Dr. Elizabeth Corday, joined the cast to liven things up this season. This led to some relationship drama between Corday and Dr. Douglas Ross, played by George Clooney.

This release includes six discs, which contain a live postshow, gag reels, and outtakes. With all the other medical dramas out there, E.R. has proven time and again that it's at the top of the heap.

This DVD hits the streets December 20. Until then, check out a clip from season three!

Law & Order - The Fourth Year
