Joss Whedon noted on the DVD commentary of this episode that only villains of Firefly wear hats.
(edit)
Harken: Seems odd you'd name your ship after a battle you were on the wrong side of.
Mal: May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one. (edit) Harken: Do you love him?
Zoe: I don't see how that's relevant.
Harken: Well, he is your husband.
Zoe: Yes. (edit) Book: How we treat our dead is what makes us different than those who did the slaughter. (edit) Harken: You fought with Captain Reynolds in the war?
Zoe: Fought with a lot of people in the war.
Harken: And your husband?
Zoe: Fight with him sometimes too. (edit) Kaylee: So I guess that makes us one man short.
Jayne: Yeah, little Kaylee's always one man short. (edit)

Jayne: Yeah, little Kaylee's always one man short. (edit)
Before Jayne goes onboard the ship that was attacked by Reavers, his pistol has a reflex scope on it. However, after he is attacked by the man on the ship, it has disappeared.
(edit)
So the survivor attacks Jayne, who in return shoots him. When Mal follows the blood drops to the vent, it's closed. So the survivor takes the vent off, climbs in, and then places it back in. He seems too out of the world to be putting the vent back.
(edit)
When Simon comes into the other ship in the spacesuit, he lays down his flashlight to try and take of his helmet, but when the shot changes to Kaylee coming toward the screen to help him you can see the light from the flashlight still moving over the other characters behind Kaylee, at one point blinding Jayne, as if Simon was still holding it.
(edit)
Trivia: The ship's name "Serenity" was taken from one of the last places the war was fought before the Alliance considered the war won, which was called Serenity Valley.
(edit)
Wouldn't Captain Malcolm and Zoe have noticed a bad odor before River looked up towards the slaughtered, hanging passengers of the derelict ship?
(edit)
Book: Shall I remind you of the story of the Good Samaritan?
The Parable of the Good Samaritan is a famous New Testament parable appearing only in the Gospel of Luke (10:25-37). The majority view indicates this parable is told by Jesus in order to illustrate that compassion should be for all people, and that fulfilling the spirit of the Law is just as important as fulfilling the letter of the Law.
