Why was this show cancelled??!? hide « show »

Captain Mal Reynolds and his crew have sci-fi western adventures. At first I thought it sounds kind of lame, I'm not a big western or sci-fi fan. It also didn't help that this show aired in the middle of the night in my country so it didn't really stand a chance to get a decent audience.
But I do like my Whedon series so I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did! This show is packed with humor, adventure and action. The actors do a great job portraying the characters. They are all very unique and have their own traits, and I can honestly say that there is no one in the crew I find annoying. It's a shame this series didn't get a fair shot, it's awesome, you have to see it to believe it! These characters have a lot of stories still to tell, and I'm sad that it won't be told.

A once in a lifetime series. hide « show »

Though the show sadly didn't last, Firefly's impact on science fiction TV and film was both immediate and lasting. It's no secret that the producers of the BSG reboot deliberately aped Firefly's grimy design and messy shooting style, but you might also recall that DOA Star Trek Enterprise attempted to go "gritty" in a pathetic stab at self-resuscitation, even ripping off Mal and Jayne's memorable airlock encounter in the climax of one episode. The success of BSG has permanently raised the bar for sci-fi, but even it's best episode pales next to the least of Firefly. You can use cliche's like "gritty" and "edgy" to describe both shows but "joy" is one adjective that only applies to Whedon's masterpiece. No matter how wrenched in existential angst the show could get, at it's heart, love and optimism (never naive in a Whedon show) reigned over everything. Most shows take awhile to find a voice but Firefly hit the ground running with a cast, a crew, and a writing team who all seemed to get it from day one, all despite the network's best attempts to foil them. There will never, ever be another show like this; and we fans can wring our hands over what might have been, but we should really all just be grateful for what we have: 14 brilliant episodes and one truly great film.

The pilot absolutely blew me away. hide « show »

Where to start with this show? The best place would be the characters. Wash jokes his way through life, Zoe just gets through it. Mal is too stubborn to do anything else. Inara is too beautiful for Mal's comprehension. Sheppard Book is a mystery, Kaylee is an open book. Simon is a wonder brother, River is crazy glue. Jayne. Serenity itself is a character, the sets were amazing. They paid great attention to detail, from the engine room to the kitchen You could tell the actors were comfortable there. The music deserves mention too. It brings the whole 'verse' together. I like that there are no alien or robot armies in the story. Just humans pushing out of earth to build grand cities on water planets and shanty towns on little moons. It is far, far too short, only one season. Although it later got a movie that served the story well, I wish Firefly had gone longer.

This show has it all cowboys spaceships romance comedy and monsters add this to hot people in tight pants...it can't get any better hide « show »

This is the best show ever. Not only for the twelve episodes they made but for what could have happened and all of the movies, comic books websites, and the movie it lead too. The complex relationships and twisting plots make it absolutely fabulous. Mal Reynolds is everything you can wish for in a good /bad guy. Boyish good looks glittering smile and more importantly loving and equally good looking supporters. The last 3 episodes are amazing as River gains a stronger part and relationships are tested it is a shame they were never shown on tv maybe then the show could have been saved with the exception of the first two shows the series is the best ever

Firefly is the story of a pair of former soldiers now looking to find work and avoid trouble with the government of the Alliance who've managed to pick up a very interesting crew and become a tight-knit, if a bit dysfunctional, family along the way. hide « show »

I'm not a television person - I never was. It took only watching the pilot episode to get me absolutely hooked on this show. I bought the DVD set the next day (for the full $50, not the discounted Amazon.com price). It was worth every penny. I still haven't seen the whole thing because I treat each episode like a delicacy to be savored.

Never have I loved a show so much. Its cancellation was a crime - its movie a miracle - and its inevitable resurrection one of the happiest moments of my life - no hyperbole. If you haven't seen it, do it. If you have, get someone else to watch it.
