Show Summary

"Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I don't care I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me. Take me out to the black, tell them I ain't coming back. Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me......There's no place I can be since I found Serenity, youMore can't take the sky from me." Firefly is set five hundred years from today in a new planetary system after humanity abandons "Earth That Was". Under the leadership of Malcolm Reynolds, a renegade who fought against the new unified central government (the "Alliance"), the crew of the Firefly-class vessel Serenity struggles to survive any way they can. They fly between the border planets to keep away from the Alliance and below its radar. This series was described as a "science fiction western" but is different from other space-based shows as it features no aliens. (For stations and individuals seeking the intended air order of the series as specified by creator Joss Whedon, as opposed to the order Fox originally aired them or that they are informing stations is the order they should be shown in, see here ) Each of the crew members has a special role: Malcolm Reynolds holds the duty of Captain - he is a defeated soldier who opposed the unification of the planets by the Alliance to no avail. He strives to keep all his crew members on task and Serenity flying safely, while trying to make a living and do the right thing...in his rather flexible moral framework. Zoe (aka The Soldier) is extremely loyal to Reynolds as she served with him during the war and owes her life to him. Zoe has the strength and experience to take command of the ship, if necessary. Wash is Serenity's pilot (and Zoe's husband) - unassuming, self-deprecating, and calm with a sense of humor. Kaylee is the ship's mechanic - an experienced engineer who keeps Serenity flying. Inara is a 'Registered Companion,' most easily described as a high-priced courtesan or geisha. She is also the person with the highest social standing on the ship and acts as the crew's Ambassador. Jayne is the muscle of the crew. A tough, uncultured Mercenary, unpleasant and offensively direct, but loyal to those on his crew...usually. The newcomers are: Simon Tam is the Doctor on Serenity and comes from a wealthy family and has a privileged upbringing. He has spent his life savings and future to save his sister, River. River (aka The Fugitive) was experimented on by the government. Her psychic visions (a result of the experiments) are taken at first as babble by the crew but they slowly come to realize that there's more going on than what shows on the surface. Book or "The Shepherd," is a wise minister who knows far more about military matters and battle tactics than a man of the cloth should, and his past is shrouded in mystery.

Wiki says "Firefly is an American space western television series..." which completely misses the point, this show is about Freedom, yet another reminder of the danger of Absolute Power unchecked. Plus it's just great entertainment :) hide show

Cancelling the show was the worst mistake by any studio, network, anyone since 20th Century Fox gave George Lucas all the merchandising rights for Star Wars because "it would sell much anyway". You do not have to look very far to see how well that bit of insight worked for the studio.

As Whedon said, make sure when you make the show you're asked to make, be sure they really want it...as you might expect from a series that was never fully allowed to develop, a lot of unanswered questions remained even after the movie. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, don't expect things to be wrapped up nice and tidy like, y'hear now? ;)

    Greatest show ever? hide show

Yeah... it's simple. It has everything. Comedy, action, drama, great acting, comedy (yes... i counted it twice for sarcasm), and an intirely new "universe" where all the little things were thought through. The mix of Cowboys and SpaceCrafts is amazing and works in perfection. Even for people who aren't very found of these two genres, this show is STILL brilliant.
Anyway, FOX cancelled it (GREAT JOB FOX!)... but, it may be some kind o virus that affects TV Executives, because in my country this is almost unknown, it only aired in a small paid tv channel.

Definitly a must watch/own DVDs (including Serenity)

And, FOX, you just can't stop the signal.

and the lesson of the is kids never let fox touch your tv shows. though i suppose 4kids could of done worse DX god help whatever twisted dimension that happens in. hide show

man this show was pretty sick. the background designs were awesome. i especially like the sliding door to kaiylee's room. but you'd think she'd be closer to the engines?
there is so much obvious pairings its like a shipper goldmine. first the unrequited love and sexual tension between jayne and kaiylee could be cut with a knife. he obviously has feelings for her but like most guys can't put them into words that aren't incredibly stupid. meanwhile she has hots for the doc but that wont work out since their from two completly different worlds.
then theres mal and inara their so cute together. if only they'd be more honest with their feelings.
anyway great show it will be missed. sucked it was cancelled so quick but who knows. i mean hey they got futurama to come back and its been cancelled for 7 + years. but it depends on the networks shows are aired on. like for example syfy creal ect are networks that are full of retards and are too busy trying to reinvent themselves that they alienate their fans away. and cancel some of their best shows like naruto.

    One incredible series hide show

Everything about this series is pure gold. From the music to the actors, and everything in between. Firefly tells the story of the 9 crew members on the firefly-class spacesihp "Serenity", including The Captain, his right-hand (wo)man, the pilot, a companion (prostitute), mechanic, a doctor and his sister, a shepard (priest), and well... Adam Baldwin. Firefly was unique to the sci-fi genre in manys ways most obvious was the lack of aliens or space monsters (sort-of). Firefly is often considered one of (if not the) greatest shows ever. However after it's first season, Firefly was cancelled (read: raped, skined and eaten alive), by a board of incompetent, uneducated, half-wits (see Fox Broadcasting Company).

Why was this show cancelled??!? hide show

Captain Mal Reynolds and his crew have sci-fi western adventures. At first I thought it sounds kind of lame, I'm not a big western or sci-fi fan. It also didn't help that this show aired in the middle of the night in my country so it didn't really stand a chance to get a decent audience.
But I do like my Whedon series so I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did! This show is packed with humor, adventure and action. The actors do a great job portraying the characters. They are all very unique and have their own traits, and I can honestly say that there is no one in the crew I find annoying. It's a shame this series didn't get a fair shot, it's awesome, you have to see it to believe it! These characters have a lot of stories still to tell, and I'm sad that it won't be told.
