*These updates are now live!
We have some exciting new updates coming our way tomorrow:
- The cast and crew order in episode overview pages will now match order in the cast and crew tab.
- In the cast and crew search tool, spaces around the search term will no longer inhibit the person from popping up.
- Editors will no longer get PMs for submissions made to shows they edit.
- Filtering your submissions by show (from your profile) will work properly.
- The issue with adding an air date, where the month would set to 00 when you try and submit, has been fixed.
-User recaps are now called out under the Episode Summary in overview pages.
Also, we wanted to let you all know that people search will be returning to the site shortly!
Please let us know if you have any questions!
UPDATE: We are aware that people search in the cast & crew tool has been working slower. We'll take a look at it and let you know when we have an update.
*These updates are now live!
Update: Thanks again for all your help! We will be spending some time going through your suggestions & compiling a comprehensive list for the drop down. We'll keep you all notified when those changes are live! The polls are now closed, but always feel free to PM us with more suggestions!
Update:Just a reminder that polls are closing for this in a few minutes at 6PM PST. This isn't the last time we'll be able to add roles to the list, but we want to get as comprehensive a list as possible with this first round. Thanks again for all your suggestions!
As some of you have noticed, with the new Cast & Crew tool we no longer have a free-form text field for you to enter more information about a crew member's role on the show. You can still choose their official title from the role drop-down menu, but many of you had been using this text field to enter a more specific role or a role we may not have had listed.
We took away that text field to help us keep our crew roles consistent on people pages. Instead, we would like to ensure that the role list in our drop-down menu is as comprehensive as possible, to prevent the need for the free-form text field.
We would like to open up the debate to you guys! Which crew roles do you think should be added to our list? Here are some common roles that do not appear in the drop-down list that users like yourselves had previously entered into the free-form text field:
Assistant Costume Designer
Post Production Assistant
Please comment here to let us know your thoughts before Friday, April 13th at 6PM PST. At that time, we will be closing the polls and compiling a list of roles to add to the list.
Let's keep this post as a brainstorming post only. If you have any questions or concerns regarding other matters, please PM us or comment on another post. We will be directing matters not related to the role drop-down list off this post to ensure we do not miss any role suggestions buried within other comments.
UPDATE: Some of you may be experiencing issues with episode air dates where the month shows 00 when you try and submit. We're currently working on this issue. In the meantime, please send over any air date issues you're having and we can add it in for you. Thanks!
UPDATE II: We understand that a lot of you are concerned that you can no longer import cast & crew from the show level. We have decided to remove this feature since it slows down the entire tool, sometimes causing it to fail. This is because some show credits lists are so extensive. We are looking into this and as always, we are here to help so let us know if you need any help getting cast & crew added in your guides.
Our new cast & crew tool and people pages are now live! Try 'em out and let us know what you think.
Also, we're now requiring air dates for all new episode submissions. This information will help us better structure your guides.
FYI: Edits to cast and crew should appear in episode pages in about 10 minutes, and it takes about 6 hours for these edits to appear in people pages because of publication. Thanks!
UPDATE: Also on Wednesday, we are going to require air dates for all new episode submissions. This information will allow us to better structure your guides. Thanks!
We have some exciting stuff coming our way this Wednesday! First off, we're rolling out a new cast & crew tool:
You can edit multiple credits at once, easily switch between cast and crew, reorder within the same tool, and you can import in bulk from the previous episode:
Also, we're rolling out our new people pages! Credits are grouped together by role and will be displayed on the overview page:
With these new pages, you want to be sure to stay consistent with character names, or Liz Lemon and Elizabeth Lemon will be grouped separately.
Hope you enjoy these new features and as always, let us know what you think!
UPDATE: These changes are now live! We've also brought back episode banner images. You'll see more and more pop up as we add them over time. Enjoy!
UPDATE 2: Just a heads up, you all may be seeing some delays in your submissions getting processed for the next day or two. Stay tuned!
UPDATE 3: Episode cast re-ordering is not working. We've identified a fix and it will be rolled out next week. We'll give you another update early next week - thank you for your patience.
Here are few updates we have coming your way tomorrow. We'll update you when the changes are live!
- Cast and trivia reordering tools (at the episode level) will be restored.
- We have fixed the bug causing you to get a 500 error page when clicking into episodes.
As always, let us know what you think, and be sure to let us know of any issues you come across.
UPDATE: We are aware that some of you are having issues adding recaps in Firefox. We are working on a fix and we'll be sure to keep you all updated. Thanks!
Just wanted to let you all know that we are aware of the bug where shows display an incorrect premiere date even though the edit tool displays the right one.
We are working on this and will update you all once we have a timeframe for the fix.
Many of you have reached out to us asking why it takes so long for your edits to appear on your episode guides. We've been hard at work trying to lower the amount of time it takes from when you hit save to when your edit appears on TV.com.
The reason for the delay is something we call Publication. Publication is when we take all the new content added to TV.com and publish it to the live website. The current delay is in place in order to process our numerous submissions and content additions, and to improve the site speed and reliability. From new images to new show/episode submissions, we've got so much data trying to make it's way to the live site. We put some limitations in place to prevent bottlenecks and improve site reliability.
We recognize this is not ideal for you and we are hard at work improving our system to resolve this. We have been able to reduce the time to a max of 6 hours and continue to work on getting your edits to appear instantaneously.
As always, let us know if you have any questions!
UPDATE 3/15: The issue we mentioned in a previous site blog entry (about Empty Seasons displaying on Episode Guides) is fixed now! Let us know if you encounter any more issues.
We have a few updates! First off, the previous and next episode widgets are now live on the episode guides. We're aware that there's an issue with episodes airing tonight being displayed under the Previous Episode column, and we're working to fix it so that they appear in the Next Episode section. We'll keep you updated.
Also, we know a lot of you have been asking for the return of the Lights On/Lights Off feature. We're happy to announce that it's back! Scroll down to the bottom of any page on the site and you'll see this in the right hand corner:
You now have the choice of blue, grey, and black for your background.
Many of you have noticed that we have started to have pages for movies and web series on the site now. These pages will not take any of our attention away from working on your episode guides. We're still tweaking them and we will be making an official announcement when we're done working on them. For now, please let us know if you see any issues or have any feedback.
Finally, we'd like to reiterate that if you have any questions or concerns about submissions guidelines or MIA editors please send a PM directly to me (nilla_chelle01) or Edlyn (etong87) with details so we can investigate.
UPDATE: These changes are now live! Let us know what you think!
We're excited to announce two new features we're introducing to our episode guides tomorrow! At the top of each guide, we will display the previously aired episode and the next episode. This way, you can see this info right off the bat.
Also, within the episode guide, we will highlight any episodes that are scheduled to air that day.Tomorrow, you will also able to reorder episodes within Specials seasons and you will no longer be able to rate future episodes. We've also fixed a bug allowing you to filter cast and crew by role again.Plus, we're happy to announce that we are working on the Cast & Crew tool. We've been listening to your specific concerns about the tool and we're excited about the improvements coming. We'll have more details on that soon.As always, let us know what you think! Thanks,Edlyn (Etong87)UPDATE: We've found a bug where users are able to rate future episodes without an air date. We're working on a fix and will update you all once it's resolved. Thanks!
Update: The Get Satisfaction page will now be available until April 13th. At that time, we will shut it off and will be focusing our attention on our forums and PMs.Hi,
When we launched our most recent site redesign, we used a tool called Get Satisfaction to get your feedback on those changes. Many of you responded and gave us great ideas that we are now using for future updates to the site. Thank you for that.
Now that the redesign is behind us, the need for Get Satisfaction has gone away. Users like yourselves let us know about bugs and problems in our TV.com forums and via PMs and we would like to focus all of our efforts on those.
At the end of this week, we are going to turn off our Get Satisfaction page. Please continue to send us your feedback and ideas. Your thoughts are vital to the future of TV.com!
Thank you!- Jessica
Update (3/13): We are still working on this and have not forgotten about the issue. We will continue to keep you updated about any changes.
Update: It was brought to my attention that comments were not working for this post. We've fixed the issue and you can comment again!
You may have noticed that incorrect/empty seasons are appearing on your episode guides. They look like this:
This was not intentional and we are actively working on removing them all from the site again. You do not need to report them individually and you will see them go away very soon. We will continue to update you if anything gets delayed.
Thank you for your patience while we fix this!
Hi, We're excited to announce some new additions to the Community Team at TV.com! We thought this would be a good time to introduce everyone on the team so you can get to know us a little better. Our expanding team will allow us to communicate with you guys more often and fix problems in a more timely manner.
Please reach out to any one of us if you have any comments or questions!
Jessica: I'm a die-hard Beverly Hills 90210 fan (I even cut my hair to be like Brenda Walsh) and I'm pretty sure there's nothing better in the world than pugs. I love dramatic teen shows like Gossip Girl & Teen Mom but lately I've been dipping my toe outside of that realm with new favorites New Girl and Parenthood. New obsession? Buffy the Vampire Slayer (although it took me 5 seasons to admit it!). I've been working hard managing episode guides for another website for 3 1/2 years and I'm glad to be a new part of the TV.com team. I'm obsessed with the details and it really means a lot of me when I can perfect an episode guide. PM me at jessicakroeber to gossip about TV or just to say hi! I'm excited to get to know all of you!
Edlyn: Some of you guys already know me pretty well - for those of you that don't, I've been working here at TV.com for almost 3 years now. Some of my favorite shows include Friday Night Lights, Parks and Rec, and Gossip Girl. I hate to say it, but I love reality TV. From The Bachelor to Project Runway, to America's Next Top Model, I watch it all! Recently, I've gotten into watching Shameless, Downton Abbey, and Revenge (which is a great new show!) I look forward to continuing working with you all and making your experience on TV.com more enjoyable :-) feel free to shoot me a message at etong87!
Michelle: You know me. I still love TV! My current obsession is Doctor Who (both classic and current) and "my" Doctor is number five, Peter Davison. You can find me staying in on Friday nights to catch Fringe, and on Sundays I'm all about The Walking Dead. As for comedies, my faves right now are Modern Family and Community. I watch Top Gear on BBC America when I can, and I'm very excited for NBC's Awake. I hope to continue working diligently with you to help keep the site up and running and useful. You can contact me at nilla_chelle01 concerning site issues, feedback, and your theories about Fringe.
Ellen: For those of you who don't know me, I'm Ellen and I've been with TV.com for 3 years now. I can't say that I have a favorite genre of television. Lately, I've been watching a lot of reality competition (Top Chef, Top Shot and Survivor) but I love sitcoms and a good family drama - give Parenthood another season! My all time favorite show is probably Gilmore Girls. And my biggest (not-so) guilty pleasure? Dance Moms. I've been working on different aspects of the site over my time here and I hope to be able to continue improving your experience on TV.com. You can shoot me a PM at pitzerLN for questions, concerns, new recipes and speculations on the latest plot twists on Revenge.
Teddy: Hi, I'm Teddy. As you can tell from my picture, I have a few skeletons in my closet. Hehe…When I'm not trying to figure out how Dexter is going to get out of that tricky situation, I like to spend my free time emulating my heroes on reality TV. Reality TV stars have been my mentors throughout my life and have shaped me into the well rounded TV.com employee I am. I've gotten my business acumen from Pawn Stars, my relationship abilities through Jersey Shore, and I know how to keep myself out of trouble from Locked Up. I'm almost OCD when a show or episode guide is missing actors or summaries. A complete show guide gives me almost as much joy as a Jersey Shore marathon. You can PM me at teddywilkins to discuss thoughts on childbearing Snooki or if Dexter's latest kill seems as justified as the rest.
Cam: Hi Everybody! I'm new to TV.com and couldn't be happier about working here. First off, I am a horror fanatic, just figured I should get that out there. My all time favorite shows are Six Feet Under, The Wire, and Breaking Bad. Right now I can't get enough Parks and Recreation, Happy Endings, New Girl, Parenthood (Seriously how good was Season 3?!) and The League. I love my TV and I love it organized and detailed, the way it should be. I take great pleasure in this work, so please feel free to PM me at CameronFisher with questions, comments, juicy gossip, and recommendations. Oh, and my ACTUAL favorite show of all time is Real World/Road Rules Challenge. Sorry I'm not sorry.
All the exciting things we outlined in our last post are now live for you to use:
- Episode re-ordering is back for Editors!
- Season 0 has been renamed Specials. If you would like a Specials season added to your guide, please contact staff.
- In the episode edit form, Season Number is now called Season Name. Functionality is the same.
- Also, in the episode edit form, next to Episode Number (Season), the expand ("+") will give you the option to set an optional Episode Number (Display). This can help you with non-numerical episodes like specials.
--Example: If there is a two part episode, you can now have the episodes display as Episode 17a and Episode 17b, instead of displaying the two parter as two different episodes.
Let us know what you think!
- Edlyn (Etong87)
A few weeks ago we posted about a fix we were working on to allow your episode and season edits to display on the site. We are close to resolution and expect these changes to be in effect early next week.
In addition, we realize that not every episode and season fit into a numerical structure. An example of this is a Special related to a show. Because of this, we are giving you the ability to enter episode numbers and have seasons that are non numerical.
What changes can you expect to see next week?
- Editors have the Episode Re-Order Tool back. It will work the same as it always did.
- In all of your editing tools, Season Number is now called Season Name. Functionality is exactly the same as before, but you will now see a drop-down with text (Season 1) instead of just numbers (1).
-- Any Season 0 has been renamed to Specials, and you can add special episodes to this season if you would like.
- Next to Episode Number (Season), you will see an expand button ("+") that will give you the option to set an Episode Number (Display). This is optional, and will display in place of an Episode Number (Season) if you enter one.
-- For example, if you add a Special you can give it an Episode Number (Season) of 23 but an Episode Number (Display) of "Special". The episode number will display on the site as "Special" instead of "Episode 23", but it will appear as the 23rd episode in that season. If you leave the Episode Number (Display) blank, it will display on the site as "Episode 23."
- Episode Number (Lifetime) remains unchanged and we are working to bring this back to the episode guides in the near future.
As always, talk to us if you have any questions.
- Edlyn (etong87) & Michelle (nilla_chelle01)
You may have tried to edit season and episode numbers and noticed that these changes have not been published to the site. A bug is preventing them from getting all the way to the site but, rest assured, your data has NOT been lost - we're saving every one of your edits.
Our data team is hard at work on a fix which we plan to release in three weeks - we want to make sure we get it right without introducing any other issues. At that time, all edits and submissions you have made and continue to make will be published. We've also put more resources on content publishing and site tools going forward.
As always, talk to us if you have any questions.
Michelle (nilla chelle) & Edlyn (etong)
UPDATE:Your edits of airdates should be pushing live to the site. Please let us know if you continue to experience issues.
Also, we are aware of the "unauthenticated request" issue when trying to post a review, as well as the sporadic 500 errors encountered on the site when trying to click on certain pages. We're still looking into fixes for them. If you encounter either of these issues, please wait a little while before trying to access the site again, and the error will most likely resolve itself.
- You are now able to add new people to cast/crew in IE
- You can now click through multiple pages to see all reviews
- A bug which prevented users from receiving level points for reviews is now fixed
Please note that you cannot leave a review for an episode until the episode airs; we are trying to do the same for ratings
- Clicking on "All" in episode guides will now list the episodes from the last 5 seasons
- There is an issue with reordering episodes; changes do not appear on the site
- Unable to edit cast designated Special Guest Star or Cameo
- Some quotes are missing line-breaks
There is a new text field in the Show Summary submission form called Returning to Air. This field will only appear on shows which are listed as On Hiatus, and can be used to indicate when the show will return. The text can be vague (Fall 2012 or October 2012) or specific (October 8, 2012) depending on your source.
If you encounter 500 errors, or if the site seems to not work as expected, try to clear out your cache and delete your cookies and see if this solves your issue.
If you encounter any issues with episode guides (duplicate episodes, missing episodes, or episodes not in the right order) please contact nilla_chelle01 or etong87 via PM to get those guides fixed. Thanks!

You may have noticed an announcement pop up this morning while you were visiting your favorite show on TV.com. It looked something like this:
If you clicked on this little teaser, your Glee page went from looking like this:
We've taken all the bits from the old TV.com that you loved, given them a polishing, and added a bunch of great new features. Here's what's new:
We've switched over to a cleaner and lighter look that makes show pages more accessible and easier to use. The new layout is intended to get you to the things you care most about faster and more efficiently, while at the same time making everything easier on the eyes. It also allows us add more information to each page without overwhelming you guys. As you can see, it makes exploration far more effortless.
We've moved the navigation tabs to the top of the page so you can get where you're going faster than ever before. We've also made it easier to quickly favorite, and rate shows, as well as write a review and watch all the available online episodes.
The Overview page also includes a brief Episode Guide, Show News, Full Episode links, Cast and Crew details, and Fan Reviews.
This is a brand new section! Here you will find full episodes and clips of any show. You can filter by free vs. paid sources and by what will play on your favorite mobile devices.
We've even added a nifty little pop-up to each episode image that links directly to the available streaming sources.
At the very bottom of each show page, you'll find a list of TV Series similar to the one you're looking at. These are our recommendations for other shows you might like, too. Take the time to browse through the list and let us know if you discover something new!
Our new show pages are just the first of many awesome updates that we have in store for you at TV.com. We're launching them today in beta to get feedback from our users, so please explore them and tell us what you think! You can leave us a comment on this post or add your feedback to our Get Satisfaction page.
And don't forget to keep an eye on blog.tv.com for more exciting updates!
The following list contains known issues with the site which we are aware of. Please comment with any additional issues you encounter while on the site.
- There are continual issues with adding cast/crew via IE and Chrome. Please use Firefox when editing cast lists.
- Login/logout issues (i.e. - Users are unable to log out from the site on IE)
Unable to add more than 3 rows of quotes in IE FIXED
- Unable to edit guest stars/cameo
- Unable to view "more reviews" in episodes FIXED
- Unable to edit forum posts FIXED
- Unable to rate episodes in IE
- Unable to upload new image to profile FIXED
- Unable to add a new person in IE
Unable to add a forum to Favorites FIXED
Also episode search does not work for all episodes. We're currently investigating the cause.
There are sporadic issues with accessing the General Forums.
Some users are unable to view news articles when clicking through from the homepage.
As you've noticed, TV.com's main header (the section of the page that appears up top) has changed. We've streamlined the tabs to feature the most popular pages on the site. It's now easier to see if you have new PMs, and for editors, if there are any new submissions in your moderation queue. The search feature has also been streamlined. If you search for a show, clicking on the dropdown listing will now take you directly to the show page instead of the search results page. We've also seen your feedback regarding the Favorites listing in the new header, and as per your requests, we've added a scroll bar to the display. Improving the user experience is an ongoing process. Please keep the feedback coming. Thanks!
User submission updates:
- WYSIWYG Editor is now available for episode summaries/recaps and for reviews
- New Submission Form for Quotes:
It's now easier to submit quotes to guides. You don't need to manually bold character names or add in colons between character names and dialogue. This will be done automatically. However, any italicized text within the dialogue will still need to be coded with < em >< /em > tags.
- Layout for Show Cast/Crew reordering page is now fixed and once again matches with the layout for episode cast/crew reordering.
- Editors are now able to reorder Quotes, Trivia, Notes, and Allusions on episodes via a drag and drop interface. Simply go to the Trivia page and click the Re-Order link to access the reorder tool.
