Please Welcome Nilla_chelle01!!
Hey all,
I would like to introduce our newest TV.com Staff member - Nilla_chelle01 . Nilla has a ton of moderating experience and she's a passionate television junkie with a special fondness for Anime. She also likes obscure candy. We're very lucky to have her on the team. Her knowledge of anime and past moderating experience will be put to good use. And we'll probably steal her candy. Let's make her feel welcome, yes?!

In Memory of Lone_shark3025 (You Will Be Missed)
I am very sad to bring you this news, but yesterday one of our users passed away. His user name was Lone_shark3025 - his friends called him, "Sharky."
His friend's have posted information on his blog to let everyone know what happened. I didn't know Lone_shark3025 personally, but after reading the comments posted, I can tell he had a lot of friends and will be sorely missed.
It's hard to know exactly the right thing to say at a time like this, but I encourage all of you who feel affected by this loss to talk about it, post comments to this blog, or the blog on his profile, and keep his memory alive. Lone_shark3025, you will be missed.Posted by danmod 08/27/2007 3:21pm comments: 45 -

Yesterday The Power Went Out
Hey everybody, as many of you already know, Cnet was down for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. Most of the downtown area lost power and we lost our servers and DB's. The crew is working to fix everything but if you see any weird images, missing emblems, avatars, etc., it's probably due to the blackout and will be fixed soon.Posted by danmod 07/25/2007 9:51am comments: 10 -
New Submission System - Fixes
This week we've been doing a lot of back-end work dealing mainly with the Search and Cast and Crew problems. Here's what we've got so far. Today we're looking to see if we can get the TU's subs to go live. I'll post updates as they come in.
The script concerning New Episodes in your Editor's queue has just been re-written and pushed lived.
Fixed - Contribution data needs to show the type of blurb (trivia, note, allusion, etc).
Fixed - can't filter by form type
Fixed - stop PMs to editors for own subs
Fixed - user's submission history should include original submission comments (instead of "This was an immediate publish" or "N/A")
Fixed - the "Edit Summary" link on Show Guides
Fixed - The Accept button working in IE6
Fixed - The Mod Queue Filter
Fixed - Crew can be imported at the Show Summary Level.
Fixed - Cast and Crew are appearing alphabetically, divided by Star, Re-occuring, Guest Star

New Submission System!!!
That's right, based on your feedback and suggestions TV.com is launching a new and improved Submission System. We've got better tools, easy to use forms, and a new CP system that I am extremely excited about. If you guys can give us a hand clearing your queues and holding back on submitting this weekend, the new system will be up and running on Monday, July 2nd.
That being said, here are some highlights:
Episode Re-numbering Tool for Editors - The tedious task of trying to re-number episodes over several seasons is a thing of the past. This handy tool will allow you to re-arrange episodes in real time, quickly and easily, without the headaches.
New Cast and Crew Form - The latest in Cast/Crew adding technology. This baby not only looks cool, it makes adding, editing, and deleting cast and crew a heck of a lot easier. The "two sub" process of editing character names is no longer necessary, you can do it all in one easy step.
Contribution Points - The days of waiting for your CP's to update are over. The new system updates your CP's in real time. Once your submission is approved, the points appear, simple as that.
New Point Values - Let's just say that's "gaming" just got a lot harder. Forms with multiple fields, (say, the Biography form for example), have been assigned individual Contribution Point values according to what type of information a user is submitting. We can't tell you what those values are, but anyone in the habit of contributing small bits of information one at a time is going to have a hard time becoming Editor.
Now, (and this is important) - In order to ensure a smooth transition we will need to turn off the old User Submission System on Sunday, July 1st. We will also need editors to clear their queue(s) no later than 12:00 PM (PST) Saturday, June 30th. TV.com Staff will process any submissions still in the queue after this time in order to
prevent loss of data.It would be great if everyone could hold off submitting this weekend (June30th and July 1st) because we've got to make sure those queues are clear so we don't lose anything. Save those submissions for the New Submission System!!
Once the new system is launched we want to hear your thoughts, so make sure you come back to this blog and tell us what you think!!
EDIT!!!
Word minimums for Recaps and maximums for Summaries!
Accepted/Rejected PM's will contain the users original Submission!

Introducing a whole new side of TV.com
As many of you have probably found by now, we've just launched two new, exciting features: TurboVision, the place to go in answer to that age-old question, "What's on tonight?", and The Burning Question, where we (well, our new friend, Laura Swisher) goes out on the street and queries everyday people their everyday opinions, collecting some *interesting* responses. Check 'em out, and let us know what you think!Posted by Jaxiecracks 05/31/2007 2:40pm comments: 43 -
Save your avatar!
Hey all,
We'll be making some minor changes to the TV.com avatar system next Tuesday. The change should go pretty smoothly, and most people won't see any difference, but a very small amount of users' avatars might disappear. We're anticipating that the number of people affected will be very, very small, but if you haven't changed your avatar in a while (like 6 months +), you might want to save it now if you haven't saved it already.Posted by Jaxiecracks 05/25/2007 11:46am comments: 39 -

Clarification on what is acceptable for "User Submitted News"
We've never 100% clarified what is/isn't acceptable to submit to the "User Submitted News" section of guides. Partly we were a bit vague purposely to see what trends or patterns in submissions would follow after implementing this. And the only solid stipulation we've had thus far is "no links to official network sites". Since this contribution has been available for a while, now's a good time to clarify.
Basically, all types of links which point to any reference site or fansite, or anything similar that has any type of valuable info. about the specific show/person, is allowed. This now includes submitting links to official network sites. We figure the more information made available the better. The whole point of TV.com is to be a great resource for television, right? As long as what you are submitting is a specific webpage that is dedicated/relevant to the guide you are adding the link to, then it's fine (i.e., links the show's official webpage, not the network homepage).Posted by missribs 04/17/2007 4:08pm comments: 31 -
Queue Access for All Editors!
That's right - you wanted it, you got it! All Editors, regardless of their level, will now have access to an Editor's queue. If you happen to be an Editor who hasn't seen the queue yet, take a look at the top of your page, you should see a, "My Queue" button, that'll get you to the queue. The little number next to the "My Queue" button tells you how many submissions you have pending. If you're a new Editor and have questions, check out the Editors Lounge, or this fine Thread, or, you can just drop us a line, we're here to help.Posted by danmod 04/03/2007 11:20am comments: 80 -
Optimized User Experience
Just wanted to pass along the message from engineers that we've made some major changes to make the site better for your use (i.e. loading pages faster, less downtimes). If you see a white page or get a "page won't load" sort of issue, it's likely that we know about it and the fix is, indeed, in the works. But feel free to report on THIS THREAD on the Technical Support Forum if you run into any white-paging, especially related to tools editors use for moderating submissions (our engineers will be checking that thread periodically for the latest user feedback on this).
This is the start of many future changes we are working on to make the site a consistently better user experience for all!Posted by missribs 03/27/2007 10:30am comments: 73
