Frasier: Guns N' Neuroses

Lilith comes to town for a one-day conference. She and Frasier try to get together, but keep having to cancel. Lilith discusses her romantic problems with a colleague at Cafe Nervosa before having to return to the conference. The woman then meets Frasier and arranges a blind date between an unwitting Frasier and Lilith. Frasier and Lilith plan to meet for drinks at her hotel before their date(s). When it takes longer than expected, Frasier calls the woman who arranged the date and says that he has to cancel. Lilith tries to save face by cancelling the date herself. She and Frasier each believe they have been stood up, but are hesitant to admit it to each other. They have a wonderful evening together, and even help the couple in the next room deal with relationship problems. Frasier winds up falling asleep and staying overnight. Meanwhile, a frantic Niles, Martin and Daphne try to undo the damage after Martin's gun accidentally discharges in Frasier's apartment. Add a recap »

After his gun goes off, damaging a tile above the fireplace, Martin tells Niles to get him some spackle. After running around aimlessly for a moment, Niles finally asks Martin, "What's spackle?".

Niles should know. In Season 10's "The Harassed", he complains that the remodeling of his office has caused his spackle allergy to act up. edit »
When Frasier and Lilith use their psychological expertise to help the young couple in the adjoining hotel room settle an argument, the couple mistakenly think Frasier and Lilith are married. Frasier starts to correct them, but Lilith stops him. But why would the couple initially think Frasier and Lilith are married? They have different last names, neither wears a wedding ring, and they made no reference to being married to one another when they spoke with the couple. Although they both happened to be in the same hotel room, that is hardly an indication that two people are married. edit »
It seems highly unlikely that a veteran cop like Martin would keep a loaded gun in the house, even in a hidden place. Keeping ammunition separate from the weapon in the home is one of the very first rules of gun safety.

Daphne tosses Niles a banana which he fumbles, knocking a shoe box to the floor which contains his father's gun. You can see David Hyde Pierce desperately trying to grab the banana as he needs it for his next line, but when the gun fires, he jumps back, losing the banana in the process. In the very next scene, however, Niles is holding the banana as he says, "I think the banana went off!"

In all episodes following this one, the replaced tile over the fireplace (broken by the bullet accidentally fired from Martin's gun) can be seen to be a shade darker than all the others. edit »

The episode title is a take-off of 1961 War film "The Guns of Navarone".
The title could also be a reference to the 1980s rock band Guns N' Roses.
