Greek Week

Episode Number: 69    Season Num: 4    First Aired: Friday September 21, 1990    Prod Code: n/a
Walk around the table with some flowers in your hand, and you're automatically married? Strange Pompadorian traditions put the Tanner household in a tailspin when Jesse's Greek relatives arrive for a visit. Michelle meets a cousin who could be her long-lost twin, sparks fly between DJ and the handsome Silvio, and young Elena's longtime romantic feelings for Jesse shake things up between him and Becky. Not every "marriage" that is introduced in this episode will last very long, but there is one special proposal that just might stick!

Notes

add »
Beginning with this episode, Stephanie's curly-haired days are officially over. From this episode on, her hair is always straight. (edit)
When her grandparents arrive, DJ is wearing the same blue dress that she's wearing in the opening credits. (edit)
This episode marks the second of three fake weddings to a Tanner sister. In season 2's "Middle Age Crazy," Stephanie "married" Harry Takayama to get attention; in this episode, D.J. and Sylvio get "married" the Pompadorian way, with a walk around the table. Then Michelle "married" DJ's boyfriend Steve in Season 6's "The Heartbreak Kid." (edit)
The original 1 minute and a half version of the theme song " Everywhere you Look" is brought back for the entire fourth season. (edit)
This is the second time that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen appear side-by-side in an episode. They would appear together in 4 episodes total throughout the series, but this episode marked the only time that it did not involve a fantasy/dream sequence. This time around, Mary-Kate and Ashley play two different, living people that everyone else can see--identical cousins, that is. (edit)

Quotes

add »
Danny: Come with me into the kitchen. I'll show you my efestio.
Papouli: You have a volcano in the kitchen? (edit)
(Danny gives Comet one of DJ's socks)
Danny: This is DJ's scent. Find DJ, Comet, find DJ.
Stephanie: Dad, that's Comet, not Lassie. (edit)
Danny: D.J. and Sylvio are not married.
Rebecca: (referring to Jesse and Elena) Neither are they.
Papouli: According to Pompadorian tradition, they are married. You give the girl flowers, you walk around the table and, that's what it's all about!
Danny: That's not a wedding. That's the Hokey-Pokey. (edit)
Danny: (referring to a Greek book) My sovraco is your sovraco.
Papouli: Thank you very much, but we brought our own underwear!
Danny: Let me get back to you on that. (edit)
Danny: D.J., why don't you go up to your room and wait for Daddy?
D.J.: "Daddy," with all due respect, you can't send me to my room anymore. I'm a married woman.
Danny: You are not a married woman.
Silvio: Papa?
Danny: Please don't call me that.
Silvio: I am ready to learn the family business. What do you do for a job?
Danny: I have a talk show.
Silvio: Well, I will study hard, and when you die, I will take over.
Danny: I will never die. Silvio, walk with me, talk with me. We have to get ready for Iorgos and Gina's anniversary party, but first, let me explain to you something that we have in America called a restraining order. (edit)

Trivia

add »
When Danny bends down and says "Hi, Melina!" to the child who looks exactly like Michelle, notice that Jesse is standing right behind them. But in the shot right before that, when Danny was about to bend down, Jesse was a significantly further distance away, behind Stephanie. (edit)
When Papouli tells Jesse that he is the godfather of a little girl named Melina, Papouli has the child brought into the house. Strangely, though, Jesse doesn't even walk up to the little girl and say hello to her, or crouch down in front of her and talk to her. He keeps a firm distance and doesn't say a word to her. That's his 4-year-old goddaughter, and he barely acknowledges that she's there. This is very uncharacteristic and out of place. (edit)
Ashley Olsen plays Michelle for the entire episode, while Mary-Kate steps in as Melina. They never switch parts. (edit)
When Joey brings the girls into the kitchen dressed the same, you can see some blonde hair sticking out of the hat worn by Melina (Mary-Kate Olsen), but she is supposed to have a black wig. (edit)

Allusions

add »
In one scene, DJ asks Silvio how he liked his first Slurpee. A Slurpee is a frozen drink that you sip from a straw. It comes in different flavors and is available exclusively at the convenience store chain 7-Eleven. (edit)
Also, the song Joey sings while he's with the girls in Michelle's room is the theme to 'The Patty Duke show', which ran from 1963 until 1966 (edit)
When Michelle brings Melina into her room, Joey comes in and starts singing a song that refers to them being "Two of a Kind." That's the exact name of a short-lived TV sitcom that both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen starred in around the age of 12. (edit)
When Sylvio comes on to D.J., she says "Oh, Mylanta," which is a reference to the Mylanta medicine for treating heartburn or gas. (edit)

Walk around the table 3 times backwards and your divorced? Weird Pompadorian traditions are seen in this episode. Will Jesse ask Becky to marry him?

Jesse's grandparents come from Greece. They bring along Jesse's cousin's daughter Malina, who looks just like Michelle. Also 2 neighbor kids or something who are now almost grown up; Sylvio and Elena.
