Body of the SanctionedEpisode Number: 2 Season Num: 1 First Aired: Saturday November 13, 2004 Prod Code: n/a |
Ed and Al discover the truth behind Father Cornello's miracles. However, if they reveal this truth, they will destroy the hopes and dreams of Rose and the other citizens of the city. Would it be more compassionate to withhold the truth and allow them to continue to live comfortably in the deception? First, though, they must survive Father Cornello's Alchemy before they can make that decision.

Ed: Who are you calling a mousy little pipsqueak!?
(edit)
Father Cornello: I see. Now I understand you, Elric. You crossed the line. You did what is strictly forbidden. You tried to create human life, and your bodies were taken to the other side. You were crazy to find out for yourself. You are the Full Metal! The Full Metal Alchemist!
(edit)
Father Cornello: Oh? Then why are you so anxious to get the stone? You want to beat the laws of equivalence just as I do and bring your mommy back.
Ed: Wrong holy man. All we want is to get our bodies normal again. See, we don't lie about what's possible. We didn't start a cult. (edit) Ed: Like I always say. Can't find a door... make your own!
(Claps his hands together and, using alchemy, creates a giant door on the side of the wall.) (edit) Ed: I hope he's real Rose. I just don't want you to get disappointed. (edit)

Inside Joke: Can you tell me how to get...
As the angry mob of townspeople search for Ed and Al, someone mentions that they were seen down on Goma Street. 'Goma' is 'Sesame' in Japanese; in essence, Ed and Al were on Sesame Street. (edit) This is the first time Ed turns a part of his automail into a blade. (edit) On April 1, 2006, Adult Swim re-aired the "Body of the Sanctioned" with farting noises inserted through out episode as an April Fool's joke. (edit) This episode was based on "The Price of Life" -- Chapter 2, Volume 1 of the Manga. (edit) Alternate Titles for The Homunculi:
Lust: The Ultimate Lance
Gluttony: The Ultimate Mouth
Envy: The Ultimate Disguise

Lust, Gluttony, and Envy are three of the Seven Deadly Sins, which are the basic vices thought, in Christian tradition, to underlie all sinful actions. The four others are Pride, Greed, Wrath, and Sloth.
(edit)
The Sun God Leto, whom the townspeople of Lior worshiped, refers to the mother of Greek god Apollo (god of the dance) and his twin sister Artemis (goddess of the hunt). Leto was the daughter of Titans Coeus and Pheobe. Apollo later became equated with Helios, the God of the Sun. Leto's children were fathered by Zeus.
