Garret Dillahunt: Biography

Garret grew up in Washington State, and attended the University of Washington where he studied journalism. He went on to study acting at New York University's graduate acting program. He appeared extensively on and off Broadway and around the country before he began pursuing film and television roles.

He has two brothers. Brett, a teacher. And Eric, deceased.

Garret: I remember one of my earliest jobs was a sitcom and it was my first one when I started doing television, and I remember people saying 'he's not a serious actor,' and then I had trouble getting in for those. And then after Deadwood it's like, 'oh, he can't be funny.(edit)
Garret: (on getting more projects after "Deadwood") I guess I shouldn't say it's all because of Deadwood. I should say that it's because of me, but I feel like it's all because of Deadwood. That showcase really opened up a lot of doors for me.(edit)
Garret: I've been very lucky and while I do play a lot of bad guys, they've been very wide and varied. I feel like if I have a reputation it's as someone who is a chameleon, which I like. I don't know if it's the best business move because people don't know who you are. But I like it and it makes me feel good.(edit)
Garret: (on fame and being stalked by Paparazzi) I don't even know how to control that. All I can do is be good and get better and make one role different from the last.(edit)
Garret: (about his character on "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") It is cool. It's cool to just win a fight. I gotta tell you, I've been beat up so much in my career. It's so nice to actually win, break a neck. I'm anxious to punch something actually. I haven't punched anything as a terminator yet. It's all lifting people by their necks.(edit)
Garret: I played Jesus Christ [in NBC's short-lived The Book of Daniel] which also had pretty good job security, because you can't kill Jesus. But I don't know if there is ever job security in what we do.(edit)
Garret: (on playing a robot on "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") I don't know about you, but I look back on my life and there are moments that I could have been braver. So it's kind of fun to have an excuse to be really brave. And I mean in acting terms and Terminator terms, to not be afraid to play a character who has no fear, to jump off a building and be brave enough to not show it is pretty cool.(edit)
Garret: I'm just not good at playing the guys that get the girl and all that. I was just never that. I didn't buy it, and I bet no one else would, either. When I quit chasing those and just started doing the character stuff that I always loved, things went better.(edit)
Garret: (about working on "Deadwood") It's just so fun when it all works. This is what you thought it would be when you were a dewy-eyed kid, saying, 'I want to be an actor.' This is what you thought it would be all the time.(edit)
Garret: (about becoming a regular cast member in the 2nd season of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") I was surprised they asked me to be a regular on the show. I wouldn't think a terminator's life would be that long.(edit)
