Gary Coleman got his big break when he starred in the 80s hit series Diff'rent Strokes. Gary knew at a young age that he would never be tall. By the time he was just five years old, he had undergone three different operations for a congenital kidney defect known as nephritis. Because of this disease, he would never grow taller than 4'8" tall. Being short didn't stop him from his claim to fame. He appeared in shows and movies such as On the Right Track, Scout's Honor, and The Kid With the Broken Halo, Dirty Work, and The Gary Coleman Show.… More The cuteness factor he had as a child slowly faded as he grew older and jobs became hard to come by. He ended up having to sue his adoptive parents for squandering his fortune he made during the filming of Diff'rent Strokes and from his own production company. In 2003, Gary ran for California Governor, but received a little more than 14,000 votes. Gary continues to get small acting gigs here and there, but nothing as powerful as Diff'rent Strokes.
On Wednesday May 26 2010, Gary suffered a concussion after a fall in his Utah home. Within a day, he was slipping in and out of consciousness and eventually slipped into a coma. On Friday, May 28 2010, he passed away due to a brain hemorrhage. He was 42 years old.

This is in a way, a tribute to him, who passed away Friday May 28, 2010. He was a great, funny actor, best known for Diff'rent Strokes. I know him from that, from an episode of the simpsons, and an episode of married with children, and i must say, he was really talented. I don't see how anyone can deny he is a great, funny actor. He will surely be missed. I give thee a 10, a perfect score, and may you rest in piece, Gary Coleman. You will be dearly missed by all of your fans. RIP GARY COLEMAN!

I saw your story on Divorce Court...and your comments ripped me apart (not the divorce part but the part where you feel so betrayed and down on yourself). I wanted to tell you something. The world is not entirely made up of people who want to use you...I used to think so too, and I'm not even close famous (and don't care to be...I live a quiet life with a few GOOD friends and family)! I understand you don't want "those types of friends" ... not the type you used to have. You can love him or hate him call him a hasbeen or whatever but Coleman really was a part of something special in the 80's with Different Strokes. Without Gary and the famous "Whatcha you talking about Willis?" line I don't that show would have been as great as it.
Different Strokes despite all perceptions it's gotten was a great show full of great actors. Dana Plato, Todd Bridges, Conrad Brain were terrific. Unfortunately many of them had
tragic lives with Gary being the first victim. I really like Gary and his portray of Arnold made him a household name. Even though he was just a kid, Gary could show that he could act. The agents and his parents used him and didn't give him the share that he wanted. It's a classic example of how these types of people can rob a boy of career and money.
It’s also a great example for anybody that feels that Hollywood can grant their dreams and their nightmares at the same time. The rest of Gary's career went nowhere and Gary took reclusion elsewhere. Even though his size was a big deal, I don’t feel ,however, just like with Dana Plato that they (NBC, Hollywood) really took them seriously and gave them a break.
