When Teddie Cochran (Geena Davis) moved to her fiancee's house, she didn't expect to suddenly become a mother. Little by little, Teddie has to adjust from a single, fast paced woman into a mother and wife. She tries to win the kids heart so she can have a happy family and live peacefully with the man she loves. At work, things aren't any easier with her crazy co-workers, Alan and Judy. But Teddie isn't all alone on this. She knows she can always count on her best friend, the drunk Hillary, and the warm-hearted nanny, Gladys.

The Geena Davis Show was one of the shows built around a 'big' Hollywood name, like many others that also premiered on the 2000-2001 season, a move from the networks to attract viewers with familiar faces. Unfortunately, none of the shows ("Normal, Ohio", led by "Roseanne" star John Goodman; the troubled NBC sitcom The Michael Richards Show, the first show from a "Seinfeld" alumn; and CBS's much anticipated Bette Midler sitcom "Bette" lasted long, despite being the season's biggest bets. All eventually went in hiatus or didn't even get a full season order. Turns out having a famous lead doesn't automatically give a show high ratings.

The Geena Davis Show premiered in October, 2000 on ABC. It made a strong debut following "Dharma & Greg," even after all the recasting, renaming and retooling the show went through to fit ABC's executives demands (the original version looked like a Sex and the City rip-off - which is understandable, considering that Terri Minsky used to write for the that show). Academy Award winning actress Geena Davis was the biggest attraction of the show, making to the cover of TV Guide's special fall 2000 edition, which also featured John Goodman, Bette Midler and Michael Richards. Despite its strong debut, ratings dropped as the weeks went by and by March it was replaced by the new Joan Cusak comedy, "What About Joan". ABC eventually brought Geena back to air the remaining episodes, but the show wasn't renewed for a second season. Still, The Geena Davis Show managed to be nominated for Best New TV Comedy Series for the People's Choice Award and Geena Davis also got a nomination herself.

  The Geena Davis Show blew past my expectations. hide « show »

  The Geena Davis Show blew past my expectations. At first, I had expected same old same old plot development but twist after turn of excitement and action just way exceeded my expectations. Mind you, there were some problems (most discontinuity issues) that I don't have the time to mention but all in all, a solid 9.
