I like watching a new show the first time on DVD, so I can go straight to the next episode. But when I do that it means everyone else has already seen the episode on TV since DVDs come a year later usually.

What is your take on the subject?

I like watching shows on DVD mostly because there aren't any commercials and the reception is much better than on TV.

Watching a TV show without the use of a DVD player is a truly underrated experience. Plus, you don't have to drop fifty bucks to get the discs.

Dvds, No commercials, uncut episodes, crystal clear picture, whats not to like. My favorite show is CSI, on dvd it's in letterbox and 5.1 stereo, until 2 years ago our cbs station wasn't even in stereo .

DVDs all the way, it's nice to be able to get through a season at your own pace, as well as not having commercials. And I also enjoy commentaries and the ability to have CC on, in case I missed what someone said.

DVDs. I like the collectability aspect of getting shows on DVD. Plus, I like not having to deal with commercials or broadcast schedules.

I still watch a lot of shows on broadcast TV, but I don't watch anything live. I record everything to my DVR and watch later so I can skip commercials and let episodes pile up for marathon sessions if I want.

I dont watch very much TV at all, infact it is probably about 1 or maybe 2 hours per week. I spend my spare time watching dvd's, video games, playing doctors and nurses with Jessica Alba, Hanging with one or two friends.

So I usually catch up with a show when it hits dvd, that way I can watch it when I want, with no cr*ppy advertisements or edits or postponements due to sports coverage which by the way the BBC is the best at doing. So avoid their shows if possible and wait for disc like I do. Unless you are willing to put up with punches, headbutt's, kicks, language, amoungst other things being edited from the shows that the BBC transmit.

Like this week I watched the entire season 1 of Angel for the first time, couldn't do that on TV. And I look forward to seeing the other seasons in the same manner as well.

Shows on DVD are a great way to catch up on a show you never saw. I would only get them though if it was something that I really wanted to watch. If I can I would rather just watch a show when it first airs on TV.

I agree. If it's a really great show everyone is talking about and a season has already been released on dvd, I'll try to catch up so I can watch the following season. Otherwise, I mainly watch tv on tv and if I love the show, then I buy the dvd to watch later.

TV is good so I can watch the new episodes when they air. Then I buy the DVD to relive the best moments from the season over and over again.

This is basically what I put in your topic on the Lost board: I could never do TV that way. It just doesn't feel as exciting or "real" on tape or DVD when that's the first time you see it. When there's some huge surprise or exciting moment, I like that seemingly contradictory feeling of knowing that even if you're watching by yourself, you still feel part of a community knowing there's still several million other people being surprised at the same time you are. When you don't see the surprise until later on tape/DVD delay, it's like coming to a surprise party after everyone yelled surprise: it's just not as exciting.
