I enjoy tv shows a lot, both just to watch them but also the different parts of creating them. Everything from writing and directing, down to clothes and make up. But there's one little thing I just don't get. Why is it so popular to change the haircut between seasons? Think about it. It's really popular to change both haircuts and clothes now and then in shows, but it's almost always between the seasons. Any ideas or guesses why this is?

Probably to emphasize time lapses and/or character growth to some extent. We TV watchers tend to be simple minded, maybe we need more visual cues?

It would be more noticeable if the hair style changed mid-season. Also it makes it easier to identify seasons. I'm just guessing.
