1. why does george lopez have an accent? | 10/31/2007 9:20am
|
is he originally from mexico or something? he speaks spanish fluently then right? maybe he used to be a cholo in real life, or at least on the show? he has this accent in real life too right? or is it just for the show, like when andy kaufman did when he played latka on the tv show taxi.

dude he is mexican. all of the main cast for george lopez (george, angie, benny,max,ernie,vic,veronica) are latino. i think except the person who plays carmen. and dude have you ever watched his stand up comedy on youtube? all the time he mentions he's a mexican

mexican meaning he was born and raised long enough in mexico to learn the language? then picked up english later and has a mexican accent? or because he's hispanic and makes himself have an accent due to social expectations?

mexican meaning he lived in a (i think) latino part of california and spoke spanish and then learned english so he kind of stuck with the accent. i grew up in a latino neighborhood, and i sort of have an accent. this is all guesswork, but im sure its a ral accent that he grew up with.

Who cares? He's funny. Why did Frasier and his brother Niles have a English lilt in their voice? They weren't born in England? The better question is this-why is it that on several blogs on this site-u ask racially inspired questions. You did the same thing on the Jefferson's forum of TV.com

of course you wouldn't have. did you know there's other countries that have hispanics that speak spanish? and they are not mexican.

it's not funny that he uses the same theme song as cheech n chongs first movie. plus the show is racially inspired, just like the jefferons. i didn't choose that concept, the producers did because they know what people like.

thats true bcuz im mexican and i can switch the accent on and off when i want 2 cept when i get mad then i talk fast in a mexican accent and since i learned spanish first and taught myself english i say some words how they sound in spanish accent like finger,buffet, etc. so i get larry_davis's question

Wow, you are really new to the Internet... Yes, he most likely has an accent because he grew up speaking Spanish in San Fernando Valley. When you know a language, your accent overpowers alternate languages you speak in. Therefore, George has an accent because of his upbringing.
