A Messenger, Nothing MoreEpisode Number: 89 Season Num: 5 First Aired: Tuesday September 28, 2004 Prod Code: 2T5302 |
T.J. is milking his injuries for all he's worth, but Luke decides that it's time to go home after seven weeks on the Ren Faire circuit; Rory calls to apologize and to ask her mother to deliver a letter to Dean; Sookie accurately diagnoses Lorelai with a bad case of management burnout, and the two friends decide to decompress with a girls-day-out; Emily and Rory come home exhausted from fending off the attentions of randy European men; Michel is wildly unenthusiastic when he's pressed into babysitting for guests whose children take an inexplicable shine to him; after Lindsay finds Rory's letter, she throws Dean and all his possessions out of the house, and her mother has an angry confrontation with Lorelai in the town square; Lane realizes that she's falling for Zack; Rory is saddened when Dean expresses regret for the shift in their relationship and the harm it caused to his wife and their families.

(Sookie is trying to open Lorelai's eyes for the overworking and bossing mode she is in)
Sookie: Want to know when was the last time I saw staff and maids this scared of a boss? At your mother's house.
Lorelai: Au...knife in the gut.
(edit) Liz: I'm so happy for you! You found your T.J.!
Luke: Please don't phrase it like that! (edit) Lorelai: (after finding out that Lindsay read the letter Rory wrote to Dean) Okay, I have got to know what was in that letter.
Rory: I...I told him that that night was special and that I wasn't sorry it happened...but he's married, and he has to figure out his life, so I said that I was going to make it easier for him...and take myself out of the mix.
Lorelai: That was a very good letter.
Rory: I can't believe she found it. (edit) Lorelai: Hey, pull back, lady!
Lindsay's Mother: You're defending her? She broke up a marriage!
Lorelai: She did not.
Lindsey's Mother: Oh, what do you know about it?
Lorelai: Enough. I know Rory.
Lindsay's Mother: Well, all I know is that my Lindsay is devastated, Dean has moved back in with his parents, lives are destroyed, and you and your daughter can go to hell! (edit) (At Luke's)
Lane: Lorelai, hi. Would you like your usual to go?
Lorelai: Yes, and quick-quick, please.
Lane: You know, people are calling you "the blur."
Lorelai: That's mean. Or is it? What is that?
Lane: You're not around, and you're always running -- swoosh, blur.
Lorelai: Well, that's business, baby. If you slow down, they might catch up with you. (edit)

In Rome Emily goes with Rory to a coffeehouse and speaks in Italian with a waiter who is not italian. Moreover both of them use correct words, but the pronunciation is really bad. No one in Italy speaks in that way and it is also quite strange for a perfectionist like Emily!
(edit)
In this episode Dean states that he ruined his marriage for a girl that "dumped me once" and "just bailed."
But Dean is the one who dumped her in their previous two break-ups, not Rory dumping him.
Possible explanation:He was angry and both breakups even though he officially ended it were prompted by Rory's actions, especially the last breakup. (edit) In the opening scene when Lorelai is walking past Miss Patty's, the little apple that falls is closer to Miss Patty. When Miss Patty turns around, the little girl is farther away from her. (edit) When they arrive at the hotel in Rome, Emily tells Rory they have to pick out restaurants for three days. When Emily later calls Lorelai, she tells her it's their last stop on the European trip. The next day, when Rory calls Lorelai to apologize and ask her to give the letter to Dean, she says she can't wait until she gets home to clear things up. By then it would only be two days left until Rory gets home so the letter would hardly get there any faster. (edit) When Rory comes back from Europe, Lorelai's hair is curly. However, when they leave the house, Lorelai's hair is obviously straight. Then, once they are near the town gazebo, Lorelai's hair is curly again. When they enter the diner, Lorelai's hair is once again straight, but when she goes to meet Luke having gone to "run an errand", her hair is once again curly. (edit)

Luke: This town...
Lorelai: ...is our town. This town is so glamorous.
This is in reference to the song by the famous girl group The Go-Go's called "This Town". (edit) Lorelai: I am the über Trump Murdoch maximus!
References to Donald Trump and Rupert Murdoch, both very rich businessmen. (edit) Lorelai: Ginchy!
'Ginchy' was a slang term used by the character Kookie in the TV show 77 Sunset Strip (1958-1964). It was supposed to be similar to 'cool' or 'groovy'. (edit) Lorelai: (to Luke) See you when Hillary's president!
Lorelai says this line in order to imply the extremely long time it would take for her to see Luke again. The "Hillary" being referred to with this line is Former First-Lady (and the junior United States Senator from New York), Hillary Clinton. Many believe that Hillary Rodham Clinton would make a good Democratic President, and would have a chance of being the first woman president. Still, this would take quite a bit of time, since 2008 would be the earliest, if ever, Hillary would be president. (edit) Brian: ... So Mary Magdalene goes to Gaul to have the kid...
Brian is telling Zach about The Da Vinci Code, the best selling book by Dan Brown. (edit)
