    10 Perfect

Jess leaves Stars Hollow and goes to California, Rory stresses over graduation and finals. The Gilmore bits were excellent and I liked Jess's parts too! hide show

This really was a brilliant episode, good setup for the finale. It was entertaining seeing Luke try and get Lorelai's attention without Rory knowing, it was quite sad to see Luke say he failed Jess, because he didn't, Jess is just that way. You do feel sorry for Luke and Rory, Jess just leaving like that.

The Stars Hollow parts were excellent and very well done, a great lead up to the next episode, the season finale. Rory being so busy and distracted and seeing Lorelai and Emily together again since there argument. One of my favourite parts of the episode was Paris, when she gave out to Lorelai, that was hilarious.

Plus when Lorelai went to hug and she said 'What are you doing?' and looked extremely uncomfortable. The tension raised when Lorelai arrived to pick Rory up from Emily's, this was however a very funny scene. It was great watching Emily lie her way out of Lorelai staying, it was even better because Lorelai obviously knew what she was doing.

It was amusing when the oblivious Richard ruined the lie and Lorelai stormed out, rightly so. I was glad when Rory said Emily was being stupid, she wasn't expecting that. The small part with Lane at the start, I do feel for her but it will be interesting to see how things turn out for her.

The saddest scene was when Lorelai broke the news about Jess to Rory, she was obviously devastated but didn't seen surprised, it was funny to see Luke bolt away from them. The reading out of the year book was good, there was a nice scene when Lorelai was so proud of Rory for becoming Valedictorian.

Now for Jess in California, this was good but I don't know if it could have handled itself as a show. I thought the girlfriend Sasha was a great character, she was funny, had good one liners and seemed fairly original. When she was introducing all the dogs to Jess, that was funny.

Jess's reactions to things always are enjoyable, he just pulls a face. You can't trust his father Jimmy and I think it was good that he said he couldn't stay because he knows that he's a screw up. That was an intense shouting match and was done well, since the show never made it we won't see her make any decisions.

Sasha's daughter being hidden in the closets in the house was funny, the girl reminded me of the one from Little Miss Sunshine, the film. So yes I liked these parts, but I think the Gilmore girls storylines stood out more. Though it was overall an excellent episode and I can't wait for the finale!

Too much Jess. It feels like 2 different shows. The high score is for the Stars Hollow scenes only. hide show

If I could give 2 marks for this episode I would. The 9 score is for the scenes in Stars Hollow only. The Jess in California scenes would get the lowest mark available.
Sorry but unlike alot of Gilmore Girls fans I have never liked Jess and don't think he is good enough for Rory so that fact that most of this episode is about him and his dad in California is too much. The scenes between Lorelai and Rory in Stars Hollow are great as are the scenes of Luke worried about having to tell Rory that Jess has left town.
When watching my DVD's of Gilmoe Girls skip the Jess parts all of the time.

A different perspective on Jimmy's life and a reaction to Emily by Rory. hide show

The finals are coming, that schedule is scary, how can anyone schedule every day for weeks to the minute, I couldn't.

Luke making faces was fun lol, the news were bad but the method was cute.

Jess is in California, guess why? to see his father.

Fate is a damm Lorelai wins some money, she pays back the loan to her parents but because she got the money, the scholarship to Yale is gone, they don't have right to it.

Jess finds Jimmy's house, meets Sasha and her dogs and kats. She has the hippie style, the colours, the cloths, the ways. Her daughter is a little weird lol

Lorelai hugging Paris was hilarious lol

In this episode we get to know a bit of Jimmy's life, what he does, his relationship with Sasha, his life.

Miss Celine is a character lol

When Lorelai came to pick up Rory, Emily was stubern, there was no reason for her reaction.... Rory was right to call he stupid, she deserved it.

Rory is doing the speech at graduation, that's a big thing!!

Rory is super-stressed about finals and all the stuff she has to do before graduation. Lorelai holds off on telling Rory Jess is gone and she didn't get Financial Aid. Jess turns up in California to see his Dad. hide show

It was extremely annoying for me to dee Sacha being played by the same actress that plays Anna. What, they couldn't find another actress in LA? And Jimmy is kind of a jerk, not wanting Jess to stay and not even asking him why he had gone across the country to see him.

It's kind of sad that Rory's time at Chilton is ending. It's like the end of an era. It was way too predictable for Rory to be named valedictorian, though. I mean, can she do NO wrong? Makes the rest of us seem like losers. But she earned it, I guess.

jess goes to california and rory gets ready to graduate hide show

i thought that this episode was okay i did not think that it is as good as other episodes from this season. i really did not like the parts where they were showing jess in california i know that the wb was trying to do a spin off of the gilmore girls and that is why they had those scenes but the spin off never evan made it to tv so i do not understand why they had those parts in this episode. i thought that the best part of this episode was the part where rory told her grandmother that she thought that she is being stupid.

  • When Lorelai sneaks into the kitchen, not to wake up Rory, wouldn't she have noticed Rory's open bedroom door, the open books and bottle of juice on the kitchen table, etc. and realized Rory was already awake? We always see Rory close her bedroom door when she goes to sleep. []
  • When Rory meets Miss Celine, there is a shot of Miss Celine and you can see a three-section mirror behind her. This might cause some confusion with regards to things seen in the reflections (suggesting a blocking gaff) unless you realize that the left-most section appears to be angled behind the center section, instead of the more common direction of towards someone standing in front of it. []
  • Lorelai and Rory are returning from a meal at Souplantation. However, there is no Souplantation in Connecticut. The closest one is in North Carolina. []
More Trivia
  • The book that Jess is seen reading in the store on the boardwalk is William S. Burroughs's seminal novel Naked Lunch. []
  • German episode title: "Vatertag", meaning "Father's Day".

French episode title: "Père Et Fils", meaning "Father And Son". []
  • Greg Cipes, who plays Brendon Lewis in a later episode of Gilmore Girls, was originally supposed to play a skater that Jess meets. His scene was deleted. []
More Notes
  • (After calming down Lorelai, Rory goes in to pick her backpack)
Emily: I swear I don't know what to do with that mother of yours, I really don't. Everything has to be such a scene.
Rory: I think you're being really stupid! []
  • Emily: Lorelai, do not get dramatic. Dinner is not ready, and even if it was I would still not be able to invite you to stay because your father and I have plans tonight. We are eating quickly and then leaving.
    Lorelai: To go where?
    Emily: The Thompsons.
    Lorelai: For what?
    Emily: Book Club.
    Lorelai: What book?
    Emily: Lovely Bones.
    Lorelai: Did you like it?
Emily: It's not my taste but I respect the attempt.
Lorelai: (to Rory) Now I know where I get it from. []
  • Lorelai: Hey, listen, my little Holly Hunter in Broadcast News, I'm gonna let you freak out and study like a mad woman and stress yourself out until finals, but once they're over, we are gonna celebrate big time... 'cause this is amazing.
    Rory: Yeah, it is.
Lorelai: Okay, now go make Mommy nervous. []
More Quotes
  • Lorelai: What book?
    Emily: Lovely Bones.
    Lorelai: Did you like it?
Emily: It's not my taste but I respect the attempt.

Lovely Bones is a novel by Alice Sebold about a 14 year old girl who is raped and murdered by a serial killer, then watches from heaven as her family deals with the aftermath of her disappearance. []
  • Lorelai: Looked like the Academy Award audience during Michael Moore's speech.

When Michael Moore accepted his Oscar for Bowling for Columbine, he made a highly politically-charged speech filled with accusations and conspiracy claims which was booed as inappropriate by some members of the audience. []
  • Paris: Suddenly, I'm Felicity without the hair issues.

Reference to the TV series Felicity, in which a girl goes to college in New York to follow a boy she's sweet on, only to find he doesn't reciprocate her feelings. The lead actress, Keri Russell, has very curly hair. Russell's decision to cut her hair severely at one point during the show's run was widely lampooned and the center of a minor controversy. []
