Episode Summary

In the hospital waiting room, Lorelai, Rory and Emily anxiously await word on Richard’s condition. When Logan hears what is happening, he borrows a helicopter to be by Rory’s side, but Lorelai is unable to reach Christopher, who is still angry over their fight the night before. Upset by Emily’s attempt to remain calm by dealing with her social calendar, Lorelai is relieved when Luke shows up unannounced and volunteers to run errands for Emily. Christopher finally arrives to be with Lorelai, but the scene at the hospital is more than he can take when he sees Lorelai talking to Luke.

A revealing episode where the Lorelai/Christopher marriage takes another hit. Not great but still good. hide show

This is the aftermath episode, nothing ever seems to happen in these ones but at least it was entertaining. It was very interesting to see Luke and Logan rush to the Gilmore's side but Christopher was no where to be seen. This was extremely horrible on his part...but then luckily I think he just missed the calls somehow...however his reaction to Luke who had been nothing but nice was just plain wrong place, wrong time.

For gods sake Christopher your wife's father just had a heart attack...and you're bringing up a fight that shouldn't be relevant...very petty and immature. That annoyed me and probably lowered my score somewhat. What I did like was Emily and Lorelai bonding...the formers devastation was done really well.
I found the Logan/Rory stuff to be kind of boring...I never get the business talk.

Overall the episode wasn't that big...Emily was very funny and Luke showed what a nice guy is...Richard survived and will be fine...but that's really about it.

The entire episode takes place at the hospital because Richard had a heart attack. hide show

WTH is Chris doing not showing up at the hospital to support Lorelai? I just don't get it, it seems so out of character for him. When you love someone, it doesn't matter how angry you are, you are there for them when they need it. And Lorelai really needed him... When Chris' dad died, Lorelai was there for him. And when he finally shows up, he's angry because Luke is there!?! And Lorelai is just to weak to do anything about it, she doesn't really stand up to him, and just lets him be angry with her... Thank god Luke was there. This marriage is soooo over IMO...!

Great episode. One of the better ones this season. hide show

You know, sometimes I wonder why I hate Christopher. He is not really ugly, he can be funny at times and he and Lorelai have a certain connection. But then this episode came and it was like oh yeah that's why I can't stand you. You're selfish and when your wife needs you the most, you're not there for her. And it doesn't matter you had a big fight and you are sure that you where right (which he wasn't but that's a whole other story I'm not getting into right now.)you suck it up and you be there for her, like Logan was there for Rory. I'll admit I'm not a big fan of Logan but I liked him in this episode. So overall it was a great episode. But Christopher really has to stop pissing me of.

Richard's in the hospital, Luke and Logan are there, but where's Chris and why is Emily so crazy? hide show

Richard has a heart attack and goes to the hospital. Wait, wait, no, this is not season 1's 'Forgiveness and Stuff', this is season 7! Even tough a lot was different, it was kind of boring because, well, we've seen that.

Emily is just insane, worried about dinner reservations and Richard's will. Tough it did get a little too much, it was a great opportunity for us to see what an amazing actress Kelly Bishop is. She just mastered Emily's craziness with her worry for her husband. And her scene when she cries in front of Lorelai was just really great.

Even tough I hate Logan, I'll admit he was kind of sweet. Plus, we got to see Richard's study and that paiting of Rory reading they did so long ago!!! I missed that! =)

Luke was also really cute, he just loves Lorelai so much, it's adorable. But the end was really painful, with Chris getting there and seeing him and Lorelai talking. As much as I love Christopher, he should've been there for Lorelai, no matter what. He's her husband.

Not the best, not the worst. I'm not really excited for the next one, I don't want to see Lorelai and Christopher's end.

We've known it all along but, just in case you weren't sure, Chris is on his way out... hide show

I wanted Lorelei and Luke together. When the writers dragged out their romance and paired Lorelei with Chris, I did turn traitor and hoped they'd (L&C) be together. The scene where Luke tells Lorelei they just didn't fit made sense. Maybe they just didn't. Clearly, though, this relationship (taken way too far by the writers) has run its course. I don't care what you are arguing about...when your loved one is going through something as harrowing as this, you come! Bottom line! Logan was there, playing the part of the devoted boyfriend. Luke was there, doing his part (even though he shouldn't considering the treatment he's gotten from the senior Gilmores). Chris was nowhere to be seen and, when he does show up, it's only to broach an argument over Luke. Swallow it and argue later. Not in the hospital. Did the writers really need to villify him like this? Who knows? But, at this point, any L and C fans are probably shaking their heads, thinking, "Ok...back to L and L." As for the two, Emily behaved just as I'd expected. Keeping as busy as possible is a form of grieving. The final moment where she breaks down, as only Emily can, in the shop, and Lorelei is there for her...it's a sign of more bonding between the two to come.

  • Emily was standing at the nurses desk using their phone to cancel reservations and appointments, yet a few minutes later she takes a call on her cell phone. Given that her cell phone is obviously charged, it seems improbable she would use a business phone to conduct her personal business. []
  • Emily's attitude in this episode about Richard's hospitalization, and her apparent need to get everything taken care of in the most pragmatic, unemotional way possible is completely different from her attitude the first time we see Richard in the hospital in "Forgiveness and Stuff" when all she's interested in is seeing her husband and she says that she doesn't care about the forms.

However, she later explains to Lorelai the reason behind her behaviour is that she and Richard made a plan in case this sort of thing ever happened again. The plan included getting all their paperwork in order []
  • When Lorelai and Rory are in the waiting room, before Emily shows up, Lorelai has her purse in the chair next to her. In the next shot, when Emily shows up, the chair is empty. []

More Notes
  • Lorelai: (leaving Christopher a phone message) Hi, it's me again. Um, Dad's out of surgery, and it went well, and he's doing fine, so.....it's good news. I just wanted you to know.....because......I don't know why, because you haven't returned any of my calls, but I just thought I would, uh, tell you what's going on because......I'm your wife, and I think that's what I'm supposed to do. I have no idea how to be your wife, but I'm trying. You're my husband, you know, and it seems like you should be here or call me back. I mean, I'm pretty sure that's what married people do is be there for each other. I know you're upset, and I know we had a fight, but this is just bigger than that, you know? It's my dad, and he's had a heart attack, and everybody's been here. I've talked to Sookie and even Michel, and Patty, and Babette, and they've all been here for me, but......my husband's.......not here. That's not okay, Chris, you know? That's not okay. []
  • Emily: I can hardly tell what anything is! What is that pale misshapen thing? Is that a sandwich or a piece of chicken?
Lorelai: Maybe it's a chicken sandwich. Oh no, it's quiche.
    Emily: That's a quiche?
    Lorelai: That's quiche.
Emily: That blobby white thing is supposedly quiche Lorraine?
Lorelai: It doesn't say quiche Lorraine; maybe it's quiche blobby white thing. []
  • (after Emily gives Luke some things to do and taking a call about fish)
Lorelai: Sorry, we’re all a little bit (waves her arms) and she read an article about how fish can prevent heart attacks and now she thinks it’s the key to everything.
Luke: Well, fish is good. Alright, I should get going.
    Lorelai: Okay, well, thanks.
(later Luke returns to the hospital with bags of food from his diner)
Luke: Alright, so look, I got a couple of burgers, an assortment of sandwiches, there’s some salad, just in case all of a sudden you want to eat some salad. Alright? Couple pieces of pie, half a dozen chocolate chip cookies. (Christopher arrives at the hospital and sees them; he looks upset) And of course there is the fish bag.
Lorelai: You brought a fish bag?
Luke: Well, I heard somebody talking about fish. (Christopher approaches them) There’s two filets, okay, lobster roll, fish taco, tuna fish sandwiches, some fried fish and fish sticks.
Lorelai: (sees Christopher) Hey, you’re here.
    Christopher: I’m here.
Luke: Alright, well, I’m going to get going.
    Christopher: Yeah, you should.
Luke: (gives him a pointed look, after a pause he tells Lorelai) I’m glad your dad’s doing good. (leaves the hospital) []
