Jess's father turns up, Lorelai and Sookie continue to try and buy the dragonfly inn and Lane deals with the aftermath of her drunken confession. A lot of big events happened here, brilliant episode. hide show

Christ, a lot happened in this episode. Fran, the baker who owned the dragonfly inn dies, which means that Lorelai and Sookie can try and buy it. It was very amusing to see them obviously so excited, it was hilarious at the funeral when they went up to talk to the guy, while he was walking the coffin. How they helped him hold it and everything, very funny.

I really hope they get it, though I doubt it will be that easy. Lane dealing with her mother was enjoyable, it was funny how she was confused why her mother wasn't grounding her or giving out. Both of Dave's speech's to Mrs Kim were great, how puzzled he was by the end of the first one and how tired he was in the second, I loved Mrs Kim's reaction, 'You can go to prom but you can't get married'.

Now Rory and Jess, things get even more complicated when Jimmy, Jess's father arrives in town. I'm glad Luke told him to leave, it's always entertaining to watch Luke shout. The awkward silence between the father and son when they meet was done well. Luke finally tells Jess to leave because he didn't hold up his end of the deal.

It must be so frustrating for Rory, as we see when she rants at Lorelai who is completely shocked, at least we know how she feels about him now. Dean's engagement, surprising - very much so, they don't even seem top like each other that much, him and Lindsey. I though Rory's reaction was normal, it won't be the last of him we see.

I also liked Lorelai's attempt to reconcile with Emily, a funny conversation, it was great how she was jealous of what Rory was doing with them. In the end, Lorelai and Sookie have a bigger chance at getting the dragonfly and Rory sees Jess on the bus, he tells her he can't go to prom which obviously she isn't happy about, he then agrees to call her. When she gets off the bus, it is revealed that he's actually leaving town, I feel sorry for Rory.

It will be very interesting though, can't wait for the final two episodes.

Ding Dong Jess is gone!!!!!! hide show

This episode is important because of 2 reasons the first being the death of Fran Weston leaving the dragonfly Inn available for Lorelai and Sookie to buy achieving their dream of owing their own Inn.

The second is Jess showing his true colours to Rory by leaving town (even though he does show up a more few times). Unlike alot of GG fans I never liked Jess he was a rude arrogant jerk who treated Rory like dirt (which Rory acknowledges in a future episode not sure which one I think when Dean tells her he is getting married and Rory doesn't support him) and he never even tried to get along with Lorelai.

    some important events hide show

The day after a party, the reason of all the broken things is Rory but Lorelai's reaction is the best!! lol "Did you ever know that you're my hero?"

Everyone is exiting with the prom, Paris looks different lol
I'm proud of Dave, he took the courage to confront Mrs Kim, say all those things about him and Lane, he is brave lol

This is an important episode, Jess' father is in Stars Hollow, the protection factor comes out of Luke, he is furious with Jimmy.

Fran, that sweet lady with the cake store, died, that's a big blow to the town. Dean propose to Lindsey and she said yes.

Dave's determination convinced Mrs Kim, I never thought she would say yes.

The Dragonfly is for sale now that Fran died.

That scene with Jimmy and Jess, he just freaked out!! Comes back after 17 years and then runs again.
Jess is not graduating, he doesn't want to go back to school so he can't stay.
How can Jess talk to Rory like that and the minute she gets off the bus we realize that he is leaving for good...

Fran Weston dies leaving the Dragonfly Inn available to buy. Jess's father shows up in Stars Hollow. Dean tells Rory he's engaged. Jess leaves without saying goodbye. hide show

Jess annoys me. He has his moments when he's really nice but most of the time I dont like him. Although I really liked the scene with Rory and Jess trying to talk to each other but not making it and walking back again. It was really cute but Luke standing watching them with that look on his face made it really funny too.
Favourite scene was the massive blow out between Luke and Jess. Luke is trying his hardest to look after Jess and get him through school and defend him when the rest of the town is ready to grab their pitchforks and light their torches and all Jess does is throw it back in his face. I feel really sorry for Luke. He cant half shout though. Im glad he did, its about time he told Jess what's what. Just because it has to be said, Luke is hot when angry lol.
Jess's dad showing up seemed a bit pointless though. Ok he's a big loser, we got that before. Why did his appearance need to back that up. Apart from the fact we got to see Luke's reaction to him. Does anyone else think its wierd that Dean and Lindsay got engaged or is it just me? Like Rory pointed out, he's only 18 and they havent been dating very long. I did feel sorry for Dean though, the way he deflated when Rory didnt say anything. However its another classic case of the Dean over reaction syndrome. Considering he was her first boyfriend and they were together for so long, its not surprising she was a bit shocked when he told her. Did he really expect her to jump for joy? Id be shocked too!
So yet another awesome Gilmore Girls episode. Lots of feelings were exposed and lots of new developments.
Also woo hoo for Dave taking Lane to the prom!

  • This marks the first episode that we see Caesar being played by Aris Alvarado, who continues to play him for the rest of the series. In previous episodes, another actor has played Caesar. []
  • When Luke is telling Lorelai and Rory about the phone call he got form Kyle's father, he refers to Jess as Tess.

This is exactly how Lorelai wanted to call Jess earlier on the show when Rory asks her to be nice with him, just like she had given the name Duke to Luke when she first met him and didn't really like him. []
  • When Rory and Lane talk in the church, Reverend Skinner has to speed up his service because Rabbi Barans is already waiting. Reverend Skinners starts to talk really fast, but whenever the camera goes back to Rory and Lane, you can hear him talking normally in the background. He only talks fast when the camera is on him. []

More Notes
  • Lorelai: (the night after the party) My daughter's first drunken raid. I'm just so proud!
    Rory: Mom! []
  • (Lorelai yells at the car waiting to get into her parking spot)
Lorelai: Hey, we're not leaving! We are gonna live in this car! We are gonna die in this car!
Rory: I don't know anything because he won't talk to me he just sits there and sulks and then shows up at hockey games with Distiller tickets.
    Lorelai: Distiller....what Distiller tickets?
Rory: Oh, That's right, you don't know about that because I didn't want to tell you that because I dodn't want to be that girl, but after the hockey game, I was that girl.
Lorelai: What girl? Help me, drag me along honey.
Rory: The girl that lets her boyfriend treat her like dirt and then lies to her mom about it.
Lorelai: Ok. We need a breath here.
Rory: Something's been going on with him and it's been going on for a while.
    Lorelai: Honey?
Rory: I don't want to talk about it anymore, I'm tired of talking about it. I'm just.....tired.
    Lorelai: Ok. So..
    Rory: Nothing happened!
    Lorelai: Ok! []
  • (Rory and Lorelai walk to the car)
Lorelai: Ok, we left off with the thing in Kyle's bedroom.
Rory: I don't understand, one minute he's happy and the next he's not. He doesn't even talk to me anymore. Your supposed to tell your girlfriend stuff right? That's the whole point of having a girlfriend isn't it?
Lorelai: Yes it is. Now, Kyle's bedroom, what happened there?
Rory: And I'm so tired of fighting or not even fighting, he just gets mad and dissapears and comes back and I don't like how I feel and I don't like what I do.
Lorelai: Like what you do where? Kyle's bedroom?
Rory: I don't want to feel like this, I don't want to sit around wondering when we are going to talk. If he's mad, why he's mad. I hate this I really, really.....
Lorelai: Honey! You have to tell mommy what happened in Kyle's bedroom!
Rory: Jess was upset and I went to look for him and then we were kissing and it seemed like he wanted to...
    Lorelai: Did you?
Rory: No. I didn't. And then he got all weird like he was mad at me.
Lorelai: Whoa, if he's mad at you because you wouldn't have sex with him then he's a jerk!
Rory: I know that but I don't know if that why he's mad, if he's mad.
Lorelai: You can't make him talk. He has to want to.
Rory: But why doesn't he want to?
Lorelai: Because it's probably hard for him. []
More Quotes
  • Lane: It was more Stepford than cold -- very calm, very serene.

The Stepford Wives is a novel by Ira Levin which also begat two eponymous movies (1975 and 2004). A creepy, borderline SF story about normal women turning overnight into "perfect" wives - docile, pliant, and supplicating, while their friends wonder what is going on. The "Stepford Wives" of the novel are all extremely calm and polite, no matter the chaos around them. []
  • Lane: After I finished with my Farrelly Brothers audition in the bushes.

The Farrelly brothers are known for their outrageous comedies which often sashay into "gross" territory in their efforts at humor. Most notable of their creations are There's Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. []
  • Lorelai: If we're meant to have the Dragonfly Inn, then we're meant to have it.
    Sookie: Right. Like Doris Day.
    Lorelai: Que sera....
    Sookie: ...sera.

Doris Day sang the song Que Sera, Sera in the Hitchcock movie The Man Who Knew Too Much. She had a low opinion of the song, and only sang it under pressure from the studios, but it turned out to be her most popular song and became forever associated with her. "Que sera, sera" roughly translates to "whatever will be, will be" in French, and, as such, is an anthem for fate and acceptance of what happens. []
