After Kirk spills the beans that her daughter is dating Luke, Emily demands that Lorelai brings him to dinner so that they can get reacquainted; although Lorelai tries to warn him away, Luke goes anyway and is subjected to an evening of oblique insults from a passive-aggressive Emily; after Zach announces that he's ready to start going out with Lane, they spend a cozy first date at home after banishing Brian to Lane's bedroom; having not learned his lesson with Emily, Luke agrees to accept Richard's invitation to go golfing, and both men turn a deaf ear to Lorelai's pleas to cancel; Rory gets her story on the "Life and Death Brigade" by being blindfolded and whisked away by Logan and his friends to observe the elaborately staged weekend in the woods, and finally, after Logan encourages her to take a risk, to participate in the event's breathtaking finale. - Why are Emily and Richard all of a sudden so interested in who Lorelai is involved with? They never asked to meet Max once they found out about the engagement and that was alot more serious? Also what is Emily so upset by Luke and Lorelai's pairing anyway? It is obvious she would never think Luke was good enough for her Daughter but Lorelai should have just pointed out how Emily had been pushing how the two of them had a thing for each other ever since Rory's 16th birthday party four years earlier! edit »
- At the Life and Death Brigade gathering, the first night, they are not supposed to use e's. But, after Rory talks to Stephanie, she goes up to someone and asks them a question, and they answer- "May I quote Max Ernst?". That has two e's in it.
Possible explanation: They were not playing the same game.Only some people were playing the no E game, not all of them.Logan and the girl who kept tellin Rory that she should not be talking to her were talking with the letter E,so it is fair to assume only some people were playing. edit » - There is a lot of drinking and driving in this episode. During the dinner with Emily, Luke is drinking beer, and he drives home after that. Also, when he leaves the club he's drunk. Drinking and driving happens a lot in this show. edit »
- At the end of the episode when Lorelai and Rory are talking on the phone. Rory says "Where are you off to?". But, Lorelai never said that she was going anywhere. edit »
- In the scenes where Luke and Richard are golfing, Luke is dressed in jeans and his backwards baseball cap. In most/all high-class, private clubs, there is a specific dress code which does not allow jeans and baseball caps to be worn. edit »
- In this episode, we find out that Finn's first name is Danny. edit »
- During one of Scott Patterson's scenes (when he is calling Lorelai from the golf course and is slightly drunk) he looks very pale and ill. This was not acting, in reality he was very sick on the day that scene was shot and it ended up fitting very nicely into the episode, because he was supposed to look as if he wasn't feeling well. edit »
- "The Life and Death Brigade" is loosely based on Skull and Bones, a secret society at Yale that was founded in 1832. edit »
- (Really high, just before the jump)
Rory: (talking about the guys in the ground) Why do they all look so worried?
Logan: We are low on champagne. edit » - (Right before jumping)
Logan: You trust me?
Rory: You jump, I jump Jack.
Choir: In Omnia Paratis!
Logan: I really should have confirmed that those potatoes were okay.
(They hold hands, each one with a umbrella and they jump) edit » - (Luke and Lorelai arrive at Emily's house. They are at the door before knocking)
Lorelai: Now listen, I want you to be careful, a various consumption of booze.
Luke: I not gonna drink to much.
Lorelai: No no no, you got it backwards there, Pablo. Ride the pink elephant baby 'cus it's your only defense against Emily Gilmore unless you are packing a Kalashnikov. edit » - Lorelai: (picking up her cell phone) Owwoo, what is happening? It is heavy like iron. Uhh did you feel that ice cold wind that just passed through?
Luke: Make the call.
Lorelai: (in really high voice) I see dead people.
Luke: Make the call. edit » - Lorelai: And I wasn't hiding it, the only reason why reacted to Kirk the way I did is that he's not in this world, he's in my other world; it's as if I, out of the blue told you I was having tea with Mrs. Vanupedy.
Emily: Who?
Lorelai: Hortense Vanupedy, tight bun, lace collar, tiny poodle, fictional friend. edit »
- Rory: Where are you off to?
Lorelai: Luke's, I have to destress him after his Un-Happy Gilmore outing.
This is a reference to the 1996 Adam Sandler movie Happy Gilmore. In it Adam Sandler's character is a misfit in the world of professional golf somewhat like Luke was that day with Richard. edit » - Rory: More twists than O. Henry.
O. Henry was a writer of short stories that always had an unexpected plot twist at the end. Perhaps his best known story is Gift of the Magi. edit » - Logan: In omnia paratus!
In omnia paratus means ready for anything. edit » - Lorelai: Just tell him you were smoking peyote before he called.
Peyote is an herb used by some indigenous peoples that causes hallucinations. edit » - Lorelai: I see dead people.
A quote from the Box Office hit The Sixth Sense starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment. Haley Joel Osment's character had the unique ability to see dead people. edit »
