Glynis is interested and involved in politics and human rights issues. This interest came about when Glynis was still in school where she was inspired by Helen Suzman, who visited the school Glynis attended. In the apartheid era, Helen Suzman was the only female and liberal parliamentarian.

Glynis is involved in The Aspergers Syndrome Foundation. This charity was established in 2002 and is based in London. It supports people suffering from this condition.

Glynis Barber: I’m thrilled with the role I have on Emmerdale. It’s been 20 years since I last played a detective, although this one is the boss. She’s the head of her team, a strong, no-nonsense career woman. I shall thoroughly enjoy playing the part.
