Good Eats to anchor Food Network prime time

After many years in the 7 p.m. time slot (with new episodes premiering late Wednesdays), Good Eats will be taking over the 8 p.m. time slot to lead off Food Network's prime time lineup starting July 9. Emeril's ratings had been slipping, with Good Eats handily beating it by an average of 13%. Also, any new Good Eats episodes will premiere on Mondays now, starting with Coconut Cake Revival on the 9th, followed by Sub Standards a week later.

Good Eats wins a 2006 Peabody Award

Good Eats may never be slick enough to win an Emmy (and maybe we should be glad for that), but it has won one of the George Foster Peabody Awards for 2006. The Peabodys aren't popularity contests like the Emmys or the People's Choice Awards. They don't have awards for makeup or lighting. They recognize excellence and merit in the content regardless of whether show budgets or viewership is low. The April 4 news release describes Good Eats thusly:

"Rarely has science been taught on TV in such an entertaining – and appetizing – manner as it is in Alton Brown's goofy, tirelessly inventive series."

The awards ceremony will be on June 4.

Feasting on Asphalt!

Alton Brown takes to the road in a new miniseries titled Feasting on Asphalt. In the four part series, he'll explore eating on the go, beginning in Savannah, Georgia and finishing at the California coast. He'll make that trip on his motorcycle, eating every kind of "road food" imaginable on the way. The show premiers July 29, 2006 at 9pm, on the Food Network.
