Great Performances is the longest running performing arts anthology on television. It is part of of the PBS tradition of bringing the arts to viewers free of charge.

Gergiev is also principal conductor of the London Symphony and the Rotterdam Philharmonic and has appeared as principle guest conductor at New York's Metropolital Opera.
