Wings Over HootervilleEpisode Number: 33 Season Num: 2 First Aired: September 14, 1966 Prod Code: 033 |
Lisa tells the locals how she and Oliver met during WWII. After parachuting from his plane, he was rescued from a tree by Lisa, then a sergeant in the Hungarian Underground. Back in present day Hooterville, the valley's corn crop is being devoured by the "bing bug". Oliver is drafted to pilot Haney's ancient biplane and dust the crops, even though he hasn't flown since the war. Again, it's a good thing he's wearing a parachute.

Sgt. Lisa: (meeting Oliver during WWII) I don't think you're really an American.
Oliver: Why not?
Sgt. Lisa: You spend more time talking than smooching. (edit) Oliver: (proudly holding an ear of corn he's grown) There's nothing wrong with this. I'm gonna enter this in the corn festival.
Eb: That oughta get a big laugh. (edit) Hank Kimball: As you all know, I'm your county Kimball, Hank agent. (edit)

Lisa cooks cupcakes by pouring hotscake batter into coffee cups. When Oliver pries one out, it bounces across the room like a rubber ball. She makes coffee by pouring cold water into coffee grounds and shaking.

Sam Drucker recommends borrowing a plane from the Right Brothers, Orson and Wilfred, in Pixley.
(edit)
Oliver joins the Hooterville veterans group, the 4-Fs: the Former Fighters of Foreign Fracases.
(edit)
In the WWII flashback, Sgt. Lisa attempts to seduce some Germans by wearing a sexy dress and briefly exposing one of her shoulders. One German comments that it's a "booby trap".
(edit)
Before going up in the biplane, Mr. Haney tries to rent Oliver a silk scarf worn by Richard Arlen during the filming of the 1927 silent film Wings.
(edit)
The WWII radio operator tells Oliver that, if he's captured by the Nazis, he should request Stalag 13 and ask for a fellow named Hogan. This is a reference to the CBS sit-com Hogan's Heroes.
