Caroline engaged to Guy, Mac getting closer to death, Statham and Joanna on the run, Karen acting strange and the admin girls letting their hair down a bit lower than normal. A 90-minute special episode to tie up all those loose ends from the end of series 2 and end on a happy note? Probably not.
Set in a hospital and from the production team behind Smack The Pony, Green Wing has been described as "part surreal soap, part innovative comedy drama" and follows the sometimes strange, and often amusing, antics of its staff. There's new doctor Caroline Todd whose first day on the job is far… More from perfect. Then there's Dr. Alan Statham, the boring Consultant Radiologist who is constantly being outsmarted by his juniors and who is having a secret affair with hot tempered and no-nonsense Head of Human Resources Joanne Clore. To help the staff with any of their problems there is Staff Liaison Office Sue White (who is more likely to laugh at, then help solve, your troubles) and the object of her affection, smooth talking surgeon Dr. "Mac" Macartney who spends most of his time making stupid competitive bets with Anaesthetist Guy "I'm God's gift to women" Secretan. Senior Paediatrics Register Dr. Angela Hunter has very little problems, except trying to get that kink out of her boyfriend's ‘perfect' nose, while the girls in admin Kim, Harriet, Naughty Rachel and Karen spend more time talking about their sex lives than actually doing any work. And then there are the junior doctors; the confident and sarcastic Boyce and the drippy, useless Dr. Martin Dear who is hated by the patients and desperate for a woman, preferably Dr. Todd if he can manage it. Green Wing was devised and produced by Victoria Pile.

Wonderfully original hide show
I started watching this after being a fan of Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy and House M.D. and I was expecting a British take on the hospital drama / comedy, maybe in a Red Dwarf or Blackadder style - sarcastic bit just as much about what goes on and the character relationships as being funny.
What I realised quite quickly is this is much more in a sketch show style. The characters do know each other and interract, but you get small sketches involving one or two of the characters.
Give it time, I didn't like the style for the first couple of episodes, but then something clicked and every couple of minutes for the rest of the two series I laughed out loud. This is brilliantly funny without ever needing to explore what actually happens in a hospital - the exact same show could have been set in a school, office or wherever, so it never worries about how to do things in a hospital setting, it is just purely to make you laugh.
For anyone who maybe saw "The Book Group" and liked it then this is a must see. For those out there who like relationship driven sitcoms, maybe give this a go and it could gently introduce you to a whole new area of classic British comedy
A hospital comedy where no actual medicine is ever practiced. Now that's what I'm talking about! hide show
Seriously the best Britcom I've ever seen. Zany, wacky, more than a little bit off kilter. This show has a little bit of something for everyone. Except boring people. From a self-professed anglophile, this show is like heaven (that then fell to earth). Sadly for us North American viewers we may be waiting for a LONG LONG time to see how Guy deals with sleeping with his mother or if Caroline and Mac make it work. Well actually you can read the synopses online, but you know what I mean. Here's hoping that the seasons 1 & 2 dvds will be released in region 1 and that BBC America finally comes to it's senses and decides to air season 2. Love this show to death!!!!! Two thumbs up, five stars, 10 out of 10 and all that jazz.
"Kissing in the toilet. Don't flush, it's lush!" - Guy Secretan ;)
An instant addiction, the big cast of characters are bizarre but complex enough to be believably human (unlike, say, the support roles in Will and Grace). The way they all *move* is brilliant just on its own - especially the sickeningly smooth Dr Guy (did you see him sucking Dr Martin's shirt at the party?)and Joanna the Manager, a marionette on speed. The dialogue is sharp and very funny (huge team of writers) and on top of all this, there are enough plot lines to make you really care about these hyped-up weirdos, even the radiologist nerd, played by Mark Heap, who in contrast to all geek mythology ever, gets LOADS of sex. Even if the sex is funny enough to make you wince.
So much more witty than the "let's muck about dressed up in women's clothes, har har" style of recent "Little Britain" and "League of Gentlemen".
This is a great direction for British comedy/sit-coms to veer off on. More more!
This show is the best! EVERYONE JOIN FORTH AND FIGHT TO BRING MORE OF THIS GOOD STUFF!!!!!!!!! hide show
