Born on Catalina Island, Gregory grew up with his parents, Ed and Donna along with his older sister Kathleen and younger brother Christopher. He discovered his talent for acting early on. He and his friends performed acts and skits for tourists of the island to earn quick cash.
After graduating in 1968, Gregory enrolled in a small community college near the Southern California beach-town of San Juan Capistrano, where he also performed at the local theatre. He also graduated from New York's Actors Studio.
His first role was in The Harrad Experiment, but his first big break came in 1976, when he was cast in a guest-star role in the popular CBS series M*A*S*H.
Most recently, he has played Russell Brewster in Reunion and Dean in Joey. Gregory's lastest role was Nathan Speer in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Au Pair III in which he portrays Oliver Caldwell and Love N'Dancing in which he portrays Uncle Carl are the two roles Gregory has lined up for 2008.
