As Al plays in the Federation base he accidentally films the newly-arrived Federation mobile suit from the Antarctica base, Gundam NT-1 "Alex." When the Zion's attempt to destroy the Gundam fails, Al follows a damaged Zaku to its crash site and meets its pilot, novice pilot Bernard "Bernie" Wiseman. Bernie himself falls for Al's neighbor, the charming Christina MacKenzie. She is the test pilot of the Gundam that Bernie is trying to destroy. Al will come face to face with the realities of war, changing his life forever.

Characters
Al:Alfred Izuruha is a civilian boy living on Side 6 with his mother. He loves mobile suits and all most things to do with war. He has two friends Chay and Telcott. He befriends a Zeon mobile suit pilot named Bernie after seeing his Zaku II Kai crash in a forest near his house. And becomes part of the Zeon's Cyclops Team.
Bernie: Bernard Wiseman is a mobile suit pilot for the Duchy of Zeon. He has never shot down one enemy mobile suit and gets shot down in his Zaku II Kai after his first battle. He becomes assigned to the Cyclops Team after the death of former Cyclops Team member Andy Strauss. He really has no business being on the Cyclops Team since the Cyclops Team is comprised of elite soldiers. He befriends Al Izuruha after crashing on Side 6 when they exchange a camera for a Zeon Rank Badge.
Chris: Christina Mackenzie is Al's pretty neighbor and friend. She has just returned to Side 6 from the Earth. She is federation test pilot and pilots the Gundam NT-1 "Alex", but she is not a newtype and can't bring the ALEX to it's full potential. MacKenzie ends up befriending Bernard who is really a Zeon pilot.
The Creator
Yoshiyuki Tomino, Mobile Suit Gundam's principal creator, is a veteran of the anime industry. In 1964, Tomino signed with Osamu Tezuka's Mushi Production Studio, making his debut on the classis Mighty Atom (known in the U.S. as "Astro Boy"). In the 70's, he became a freelance director and prolific storyboard artist, lending his talents to a number of shows in the popular "super robot" genre. With 1979's Mobile Suit Gundam, Tomino combined the gaudy gadgetry of the traditional robot show with hard science, complex characterization, and weighty themes of war and morality. In the following decades, he's returned to the Gundam saga several times to add to the chronicles of the "Universal Century" era, and most recently (in 1999's Turn A Gundam) to extend the series into entirely new realms. In addition to his work in the anime field, Tomino has also written more than a dozen novels, most of them based on the Gundam universe or set in the fantasy world of Aura Battler Dunbine.
FAQ
Why does Gundam 0080 have only 6 episodes? Because it's an OAV. And OAVs are short series.
Why is Gundam 0080 told from a kid's point of view? I'm not completely sure on this one, but I think they either wanted to try something a little new and different |OR| To have someone else's thoughts and view of war who isn't a Gundam pilot or has to do with any fighting what so ever; but, these are just guesses. They may not be true.
