Another good episode from the show's third season. I think the second and third season maybe be the show's most consistant in offering up good episodes.
This episode introduces Penny Marshall as Laverne DeFazio and Cindy Williams as Shirley Feeney, who would go on to have their own series. I've seen very little of Laverne and Shirley, but they work really well off of each other, and it's clear to see how this was developed into its own series.
The episode is well written with some really funny moments. It is also typical of the third season in that it centres around Fonzie and Richie.
One of many very funny episodes in season 3. We meet Laverne & Shirley for the first time hide show
Richie is in a slump with girls. It gets so bad that Fonzie takes him to the supermarket, a great place to pick-up women. He fails miserably in sharing vegetable choices with a woman; a seventy year old guy is more successful and he crashes his cart into Fonzie. It's time for desparate measures so Fonzie sets him up on a double date with Laverne and Shirley. The girls openly fight with each other at Arnolds and when back at the Cunninghams, Fonzie and Laverne go upstairs and a nervous Richie is left alone with Shirley. With a can of beer in his hand and a bowl of chips, Shirley accidentally punches Richie sending everythig flying. While comforting him on the floor, His parents and Joanie come in. - a funny moment. Joanie to her parents: "It doesn't feel good being sent to your room, does it!". Many very funny scenes, overall an excellent episode.
