Fonzie comes into Arnold's and says he is going to be out of town for a few days to attend the Powder Puff Derby and be a part of Pinky Tuscadero's pit crew. He says he'll be back in time to see the band play at the dance. Potsie comes into Arnold's and tells the guys that his rich Uncle Wilbur wants him to go up to his alma mater, Notre Dame. He will be gone for the weekend, and the band won't have a singer for Saturday's Senior Dance. Richie discusses alternatives with the family before they leave to go to a movie. Ralph comes in and blows the endings to both pictures they were going to see (Psycho and Mr. Roberts), so they just take a ride instead. Ralph tells Richie that Arnold has found out about the band being without a lead singer and that he's looking for another group. At Arnold's, Arnold makes a phone call to get a new group, and Ralph and Richie tell him that Fonzie will sing for the band. Fonzie returns to his apartment with a trophy from his trip and is upset with Ralph and Potsie when he learns of their plan. Ralph tries to talk Fonzie into singing by describing what his life could be like as a star. Fonzie says he can handle that, but can't handle Potsie giving him singing lessons. Finally, Fonzie agrees, and Potsie gives him a lesson at Arnold's the next day. Laverne and Shirley come to the practice and act as Fonzie's back-up singers. Fonzie doesn't start singing at his cue during rehearsal, but says he'll be fine at the dance. Fonzie gets nervous and doesn't want to sing before the big audience (which is at Arnold's), so he talks to Richie in his office. Fonzie says he isn't going to sing. Richie tells the crowd that Fonzie will be unable to sing because he slipped in the bathroom and hit his head on the sink. Arnold starts to sing "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" with Laverne and Shirley. During the song, Fonzie comes out in his white costume. He "sings" "Heartbreak Hotel," and the crowd goes wild. After the performance, Fonzie comes out of his office with the fringes of his jacket torn off, and Laverne and Shirley keep some of them. In order for Fonzie to safely exit Arnold's, he has Richie put on Fonzie's jacket and a helmet, and Fonzie puts on Richie's Jefferson sweater. Fonzie goes out the back door, and Richie goes out to the girls.
