    8.5 Great

Howard is close to sealing a big business deal for his hardware store, and asks Richie to take his client's daughter on a date. But Richie has already got a big date planned, and so asks Potsie to take his place and pretend to be him... hide show

In this episode, Richie swaps places with Potsie when Howard asks him to go on a date with the daughter of a new business parnter.

This is sit-com land, so naturally nothing is simple or straight forward as it should be.

The episode is good, but somehow I expected just a little bit more from the promising premise. It wasn't as facial or as hectic as I hoped it might have been. In many repects I fell that I should rate it higher than 'average', but I just felt that a bit more could have been done with the premise.

  • When Richie tells Ralph he can't go on the date, Ralph responds by saying "You promised your father? What about Ralphie, your life-long buddy? Who played marbles with you? Who ate those crummy celery sticks your mom used to give you for lunch? Remember? Who taught you how to sneak into the movies? And what about the time your father..." Richie and Ralph were introduced by Potsie when they were in high school (as seen in the episode, "Our Gang"), so they couldn't have gone through all of that as kids. []
  • Richie: I already have a date for tomorrow night.
    Howard: Why?
Richie: Why do I have a date? Dad, didn't we have this talk that summer I got tall? []
  • Joanie: Mom fell asleep in the bathtub.
    Howard: Is the water running?
    Joanie: No.
Howard: Well, then leave me alone. []
  • (Ralph and Richie offer Potsie money to go out with Winnie McKinnie.)
Potsie: My affections can't be bought.
Richie: Could they be rented for 10 dollars?
    Potsie: Rented? Sure.
Richie: You got it. Five from me, five from Ralph.
    Potsie: Deal.
Ralph: Look at this! I rented a nerd for five dollars. []
